    Hello!

I was looking for a Plug in conversion and I found the 10kWh plug in conversion from Plug in solution.

Here is a picture of what I am looking for:
    http://smilingdogsranch.com/priusblog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/DSC_0011.jpg

I was wondering if the additional pack is just in parallel to the original Toyota one.
Can anyone say this? I don't think that there is a DC/DC Converter in between, but I hope somebody can say me how it is.

It would also be interesting if there is a diode between de original battery and the additional, so if regen braking is also charging the additional battery or just the original one.

    Thanks a lot in advance

    Manuel

Great cproaudio! I wasn't able to find the website myself -.-

If you have read my question you would know that the information what I want to know isn't available on the website!

    Thanks

First off, Plugin Supply is actual vendor of this kit, while Plugin Solution seems to have stolen their Web site and possibly their design. I would advise to only deal with Plugin Supply and not Plugin Solution.

The kit has high voltage high capacity battery pack and does not need DC-DC conversion. The voltage of the plugin pack is set to be just the right amount higher than OEM battery so current always flows in one direction, so no need for diodes either. Plugin pack is connected in parallel to OEM by intelligent controller with sophisticated algorithm, which controls heavy duty contactors, which connect and disconnect plugin pack from OEM pack when needed, preserving the health of both packs.

I have this kit in my own Prius for over 6 month now and it works great. If you drive in the city with lots of stop/go and low speed limits you can basically never use gas at all, pure EV mode. In rural area with lead foot soccer moms and rednecks in 6000lb pickups you would drive in hybrid mode and still get around 100mpg on average.

Since plugin voltage is ALWAYS higher than OEM pack voltage, regen does not go to plugin pack, only to OEM pack, but plugin software is designed such that OEM pack still has room to absorb regen into OEM pack.

    Hello!
    Thanks for your answer.

I think it is unpossible that the OEM Battery has a higher voltage than the plugin battery, because they are in parallel !

So how do you mean there is an intelligent controller ? What does this do? I know that there are relais, I think if you "start" the car, the relais are closing and if you stop they are opening, but is there more behind that ?

Is there also an "upgrade" for the Battery ECU ? I mean if there is an additional controller, that the SOC is changed by that or something like that ?

Controller talks to Prius ECU via CANbus and spoofs SOC data, maximizing use of electric drivetrain. Plugin and OEM batteries are not always connected as you think, connection is made when there is demand for power. The whole system is designed for maximum efficiency and best use of both batteries. There is no "upgrade" to any Prius components, the kit can be removed and Prius will be back to original 100%. When kit is turned off, Prius is 100% original. In my opinion its the best kit on the market, but of course you pay what you get for.

I don't know if you watched the video in the homepage but if you did, you'll know that the new system does have regen capability. Since you can turn the system on and off, I'd imagine that the OEM pack is still intact.

My car...and I have had good luck with my conversion, receiving updates as available...next update expected to address 52mph EV limit, and possibly regen to the large pack...and though I use a SCANII to monitor various parameters, would be really nice to see the current StateOfCharge of the large pack.

    Hey Scott!

How do you want to add regen ability to the large pack and exceed the EV limit ?

If you want to see the State of Charge of the large Pack you have to add something like a BMS ( a little one ). If I can help you build that, you can write me a PM, I am building something like that at the moment, and it works fine.

I believe you got it backwards - plug-in supply is a shop located just a few miles south of us, in San Juan Capistrano and they used to install plug-inSolutino's product.Plug in Solutions has warned others that plug in supply's product is a lower quality product. There've been some disgruntled Plig-in supply customer post their dissatisfaction, and it's a shame. in any event, here's a video of their enen larger system, installed in an Escape hybrid. n their video the tell how yes, their system CAN send regen to both standard and plugin packs.
    SWEET!

No, hill has it backwards. Plug-In Solutions is located in San Juan Capistrano, Plug-In Supply is run by Robb Protheroe in San Francisco.

If anybody is thinking of having a kit installed, I think they should talk to Rob at Plug-In Supply. He can probably tell you the entire story. Public records on the court case can't be accessed online, so I couldn't research that aspect. But the case that Plug-In Solutions filed against him was ultimately dismissed by a judge, meaning that whatever allegations Plug-In Solutions claimed were not upheld in court.

From the research I have done, http://priuschat.com/forums/prius-p...plug-in-supply-vs-plug-in-solutions-scam.html it appears that the people at Jungle Motors, a.k.a. Plug-In Solutions, are very questionable. One example is the statement made by "Jungle Girl," who is apparently one in the same as "queenandra" who is apparently Andra Sachs, one of the owners of Jungle Motors/Plug-In Solutions. She stated, "Robb is still having major financial issues and cannot seem pay his bills., including sales taxes.,., They are all looking for him and we hope they soon find him." I found him with one email, so whoever is allegedly looking for him could have easily found him, and he seems to be a great guy who got ensnared in a big mess because of others.

    Hey all...

Sorry I've been on a slight hiatus on PriusChat.. I typically reply to these PIS vs Plug-In Solutions posts as I'm a Plug-in Supply engineer :p

All of the litigation issues between Plug-In Supply and Plug-In Solutions have been thrown out by the judge in Orange County. The judge also to effect stated that Plug-In Solutions should no longer make additional accusations against Plug-In Supply...

Just a quick tid bit about where I've been for so long. As a teaser, I'll post fragmented sentences.

Why is the EV mode speed so different for Gen 2 and Gen 3?
