Removing Expired Yellow Clean Air Sticker

    Sad day; yellow sticker expired today; many many times getting home earlier for dinner w/the family as a solo driver. Appreciated it since the beginning plus savings on fuel!

    Good news for me is that we have casual carpool program in my home city, and work in San Francisco so just have to pick-up req # people to get in the carpool lane like everyone else right. Some might not be as fortunate.

    Well, not here to debate the good or the bad about the Yellow Sticker program; w/o the sticker, I am still getting 45 mpg on my 1st Gen Prius and saving money @ the pump (can't loose site of that).

    Wanted to share best way I found removing the yellow sticker w/leaving any residue or pealing the paint off!

    Tips:
    - Take your time, peel one sticker at a time, starting with the top sharp edge of the sticker, use generous amount of gum remover (I used Citrus Cleaner Spray - pic 1). I used a small razor blade to carefully get lift on the edge of the sticker (pic 2) w/o stratching the paint.

    - Peel sticker slowly while continuously spraying Citrus cleaner. Sticker is tough as nail but you still need to be careful. After removing ea sticker, spray more cleaner and rub the sticker residue off w/clean shop towel (pic 3).

    - Walla - looks like you never had the sticker on (smile).

    Now I hope to keep driving it till I get 200,000 miles or more. :)

    And now time to drive my new commuter vehicle running CNG (can't wait to get the white sticker in the mail). Prius will be our road trip vehicle, and use in the carpool when I get enough people to ride w/me!

    Nice work. I am wondering whether, in colder areas, it would help to warm up the decal with the use of a heat gun or hair dryer - so that it will be less likely to break apart as it is being removed?

    I figured I would try a hair dryer first, and then borrow a heat gun if needed. However, I realized this afternoon that my Prius' rear bumper had been exposed to hot late-afternoon sunlight due to the garage door being open. I found the bumper to be hot to the touch, and using a fingernail, simply peeled up a corner of the sticker and pulled it off. There was a small amount of adhesive residue left, but liquid polish took it off. Backed the car into the garage and let the front end soak up some sun, and took that one off the same way. I never put the side ones on, so didn't have those to worry about.
