I'm extremely surprised with the quality of the bluetooth streaming when paired with my iPhone 4. I was not expecting it to sound so clean! No noticeable interference, hardly any lag when changing tracks and reception is good even when leaving it in my pocket.

The wife and I both have iPhones paired to the nav unit. When she wants to use her phone she simply switches the connection via the setup audio menu. I also love how it auto detects/connects your phone when you power up the nav.

Can't compare to the cabled connection but as it stands, the sound quality is pretty good. Not quite (MP3) CD but better than FM but I guess it depends on the quality of the MP3. I have the iPhone4 so it's mostly a convenience thing - I start the car and the phone pairs for the handsfree then the audio and it starts off exactly where I left off. Right now, we can change tracks but of course iOS5 will get us the goodies shown above.

The advantage of a cabled connection would be that your iPod Touch will be fully charged when it leaves the vehicle as the cable charges the iPod when the car is on so if you do want to listen to music on the go, the battery isn't used while the iPod Touch is playing through the car's speakers. The cabled connection will also allow you to browse through the folders and such but I found it much easier to just use the phone's interface (and on the iPhone4, I can use Voice Control to choose the playlist or album I want. The car treats it as a phone call).

Thanks for the answers on sound quality. I have an older GenIII that doesn't have the USB interface, and if I had it retrofitted, it would cost about as much as an iPod.

Same. I don't have USB/iPod in my Gen 3 but I got an iPhone4 the following year so I'm happy I held off installing the USB/iPod connector.
