Refer to post #273. I changed my oil using Royal Purple again im not worried about the 10 dollars. I like it, definitely better than Mobil 1. Im at 1973 checked oil still over half on stick. While im at it here is something strange. Using BP 89 which is great, decided to throw in some 93, now previously with mobil 1, it did not really impress me as did the 89. But with the royal purple it is definitely an option if there is only a 10-15 cents difference. Today im going to put some sunoco 93 in there just to see if there is a difference. Only problem with sunoco is that I work at night and they close at around midnight so I prefer not to mix gas if possible. BP is 24 hours and there gas is good. As far as fuel efficiency overall it is definitely better without question, only problem is the weather lately has just been to windy to actually say how much. I honestly like driving with the royal purple. I want to try amsoil but they are I believe 10 dollars a quart. I will stick to Royal Purple for now.

There is no proof of it. Where is the screenshot of the Odometer? It may not be possible it is an 2005 model. That is known to have the 299,999 mile limit. Do Australian models use km or mile? Maybe the limitation is in the US models.

Here's an article from Toyota: Long-Serving Prius Keeps the Peace - Newcastle Toyota
It is in kilometers, not sure if they'd have the same issue, but supposedly when the article was written it had 788,411 km. I didn't see any info on this at their company website.

I take nothing away from their achievements, any car can go along way, in my case compared to others is the battery concern, I am still on both original batteries at 382000, which is a concern to anybody that wants to buy one, and just to say a prius has x amount of miles on it with out telling what was changed or replaced in my opinion doesnt mean anything. Everything done to my car is documented on this site and if anyone denies my battery theory, reach me somewhere in florida and check the car for yourself, no tool has ever been anywhere near the battery area. And to be honest I dont think it matters anymore how many miles I go, there not making anything in japan right now anyway. I spoke to toyota and they told me there not interested in any marketing plans at the moment. So any way Im still out there 430000 is my goal.

UPDATE: Final conclusion, First off mobil 1 has done me great for 200000 plus miles, 87 gas has also done me good for 200000 plus miles no complaints. mobil 1 with 89 has yielded better results than 87, however 93 not worth it. I have switched to Royal Purple, used it twice LOVE IT other than the extra 10 dollars, no complaints. As far as oil consumption it burns less oil than mobil 1 by 12 ounces at 5000 miles. Second time in use at the moment I have 4711, started using first 12 ounces at around 2900 at 4711 i am between half and a quarter which i can probably drive about 200 miles more, that is only 12 ounces compared to the approx 20 plus, thats worth 10 bucks to me. NOW with Royal Purple 89 is great, however I decided one day to put 93 BP and wow 50 plus mpg at 604 miles daily, this is my 3rd day at 50 plus, im at 50.3 today and that is with the wind blowing crazy, dont know why it is happening but it is and im happy. I also did my tune up today spark plugs, pvc, belt, trans oil, filters. NEXT tune up 500000. And hopefully I will get my pic in the paper. Thanks for all the advice

We had a 1991 Accord, about the same car. In 200k miles the only thing I recall replacing was the radiator. It sprang a leak during a test drive by the new buyer. I put in a new radiator and she bought the car. I saw it and talked to the owner several years later and except for peeling paint it was still in good condition. The paint problem was made worse from it never being garaged in its 15 years.

^^ 'Joe' said he has replaced the radiator twice. That was most of his repairs too.

370,xxx today, just removed the air filter thats built into the housing and got an extra 2 mpg on this tank. Guess its gotten 'clogged' over 370k miles.

    Really, first replacement ?
Hopefully you put a new one in ;)
I alternate between cleaning the filter and putting a new one in. Works out to a new filter every 50 - 100k miles or so.

I believe the reference was to the charcoal filter built into the air cleaner housing lid, which traps HC rising up from the intake manifold.

Not sure why a restrictive air intake would worsen mpg, though. The lack of freely flowing air would normally result in lessened fuel consumption (along with reduced engine power, of course)...
