I just purchased my 2011 Prius, dealer wanted $800 to add the OEM xm receiver. I've searched high and low on this site and the web, and have not seen any detailed instructions of the process for the 2010-2011 model years. Does anyone have them? if so , please post a PDF. how easy is this process to do it yourself to install the OEM XM satellite receiver in the 2011 Prius? does this go under the drivers seat, or behind the factory head unit in the dash. I've seen conflicting info in the fourm on this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

That's odd. Since you have a "three" with JBL non-nav, you should already have an XM receiver built into your radio by factory. Only the navigation units have XM receivers located under the driver seat.

The sticker says XM ready. But I don't have a receiver, only the AM/sat button on the radio.

If you had a "three" then it is built into your HU. I just noticed that you changed your trim model on PC from a "three" to a "two"

So in that case, you do not have an XM receiver and you will indeed need the add on receiver.

Just picked up the car late last night. Rushed to fill out the profile. I have a two, not a three. I've gotten some reasonable quotes for the receiver and fit kit, just looking for some pdf's or details of how hard it is to install and such. Most of what I've found here has been for older models. I'm a bit nervous about taking apart the dash to put in the receiver. But $800 from the dealer was crazy.

Congrats on your new Prius! I'm sure the people here who have done the XM upgrade kit can help you out. As for taking apart the dash, I've done it a few times and it's pretty easy.

Thansk! we're loving the car, even more than we thought. I just could not stand the price gouging from the dealer on the after market stuff. $800 for the receiver installed is just crazy.

What did you install that you took the dash off, if you don't mind me asking? I'm good with technology and computers, just nervous with a brand new car.

I tried to install an aftermarket Sony navigation unit, come to find out the unit was DOA so I returned it. Lucky I purchased it from amazon.com so it was an easy return.

Ya $800 is crazy, you can get a nice aftermarket nav unit for that price!!!

I purchased the 770bt and returned it. I was not comfortable exchanging it for another. There is more talk about it on this thread.
