This is the 4th time I'm waiting for delivery of the newest Prius available... the most exciting too, since I got to drive a PHV last August and have been anticipating this advancement in hybrid technology for quite a number of years now.

In other words, these last few months will be easy enough to endure. The months which follow, enjoying the new ownership experience with a plug, certainly will be well worth it.

I'm happy to point out my looking forward to getting this one from you, Dianne. After all these years, meeting in person will be fun. Thanks for working with us to get those early arrivals.

The PHEV Priority Registration closes on August 22, 2011.

Meaning: If you're ordering thru me (and want a car at discount of course) then you need to get to me with a quick email by Aug 21st, 2011.

Between now and Aug 21, I will be gathering the info I need from you to include you in PRIORITY Registration.

Send your email to me at one of these two addresses:

    [email protected]
    [email protected]

and I will start gathering the data I need from there.

Any contact after August 21, 2011 will mean you won't be able to get into the Priority system.

FYI: the Plug-In PHEV Prius will be eligible for the all-new GREEN California HOV lane sticker for solo carpool lane occupancy.

Dianne, I don't have to worry about the HOV sticker since I live in Florida. The stickers will be available as of January 2012. I posted somewhere else in PC that most of these stickers will probably already gone to other cars if the Prius PHV reaches US shores in Spring of 2012. I am just saying!

    Sergio?
    You're just sayin' ...what?

Stickers gone to WHAT OTHER CARS?!
OMFG. Stop ... the only car that the 40,000 stickers will qualify to be on IS PHEV. Even if the VOLT qualifies, it's $40,000+++ and no way can Chevy afford to put out 40,000 of them.

PHEV is the only car that qualifies. That's what the green sticker is for - cars that are NOT all electric, just PARTIAL electric.

Dianne - Is it possible for an out of state buyer to avoid all California and local taxes if they buy from you?

Yes, but it has to be transported on a carrier from me to you. Then you would title in your state and pay tax there too.

Ok, I stand corrected. The Volt is not going to be a big player and the Ford Energi will not be out yet. I am trying to figure out when will this car be available, which dealer to choose in VA or go back to my home state of NYC.

So tempted by the plug-in Prius... I'm sending you an e-mail after this Dianne. :)

Just to clear things up, I wanted to post this link, and let me know if I'm mis-interpreting anything...

(Well, originally, here was a link to the ARB web site but I don't have enough posts to post a link... google "california carpool green sticker" and it's the first result)

According to the ARB (Air Resources Board) web site, looking at "Qualifying Vehicles for Clean Air Vehicle Decals"

The only vehicle currently available that can qualify for the new, green sticker, is the 2010 plug-in Prius... which confuses me (I wonder if the test fleet is 2010's?).

The Leaf and the other electric cars are all white, as well as the CNG and the Clarity. The Volt doesn't qualify for anything.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, only 2012 plug in Prii will qualify unless there is another AT PZEV ("advanced technology partial zero emission vehicle";) I don't know about... which is definitely possible I haven't been keeping up to date...

They are using 2010 and a few 2011 Prii "test" vehicles (I think) as their demo cars for the region and country. There won't be a 2012 on that site till there is a 2012 PHEV tested in the wintertime. But, it will be on that ARB green sticker list.

It is the ONLY car that will qualify for the GREEN CA sticker in Jaunary, and probably right thru till they drop in springtime next year.

There will be more stickers than cars at first! PHEV is limited production for many reasons. Even if some manufacturer manages to announce something electric-hybrid to come out, it still has to be tested and ARB tested and won't make the initial sticker run the first year or more, I would bet. In other words, don't freak out about having to have the first PHEV that rolls off the assembly line.

PS: you read the website RIGHT! As long as the PHEV is priced logically, there will be a line. But, with 40,000 stickers available in CA, there will be plenty of stickers for a while. The thing is, who wants to sit in traffic longer?! I don't.

    Hi Dianne,
While I need a Prius/car in the next few weeks, I am very tempted to get a PHEV a little later.
Do you have an estimate to when are these cars are going to be available in SoCal and how much should their price be for the entry model?
I am trying to decide if makes sense get a Prius now and few months later sell/trade for a PHEV.
    Thanks

Yeah, 40k stickers are not going to be snapped up in a day, but I wonder how many dozens will be left by the time GM sells a qualifying car. IF they ever sell a qualifying car.

GM has been such a prick in the side of CARB over the years, there is just no way the 150k mile emissions warranty requirement is going to be lobbied away.

    I say Karma

Looks like the volt will qualify for the sticker as well in 2012... boo!

(Would post a link, but can't)

Still, not worried about a sticker...

There won't be enough Prius PHEVs built in all of 2012 or 2013 to meet the CA volume (40k) for the GREEN stickers to run dry.

Do you know some significance to that date that I am unaware of?

Oh, that's the day you said priority registration closed, right? I'm assuming we'd start to get more info after then? :) I guess I misunderstood.
