Until I saw the light, I used to throw money in the air at church, and whatever god wanted he could keep, always left with all my money.

 

If that's all God wanted, I could get behind that. Trouble is, one God wants you to eat a specific cookie; another forbids you to eat Pork. One God wants you to worship Him on Sunday; another says Saturday. One God says you should listen to some guy in Italy. Another says Utah. One has you rolling around the floor, speaking in tongues. Another has you not using any technology more advanced than a horse and buggy. One God says you were brought here by aliens in a volcano, but all the other Gods make fun of him, and rightly so.

Which wouldn't be so bad, but people are still right now, even as you read this, killing each other playing the "My God can beat up your God" game.

Well, I wasn't figuring we'd jump on my wording... 'The reality is...' could be considered bad wording, yes. Perhaps I should have said, "A possibility is..."

 

Fair enough, call it a poor choice of words. And I wasn't meaning to jump on you, specifically. In general, people tend to talk of beliefs as if they were true, too easily confusing fact and fantasy.

 

Sounds more like what "God says" is being replaced with "but I think" rather than a multitude of different Gods saying different things. I picked up the Bible and checked to see what he actually said then crossreferenced what the others were saying he meant. If it didn't jibe with the Bible I set it aside and don't worry about it then to the best of my ability I try to live to those standards. It's not hard there are only 10 rules.

 

There is no god, so therefore no dime would be given. Now if there were, I would think he would have access to all the money he wants.

"god says..." is so full of assumptions it's ridiculous. First, that there is a god, and that he/she/it speaks your language, and speaks to you personally, and in a way that you can both hear and understand...

 

Have you even looked in a Bible? Comes in many languages btw.

 

One God says to read the Old and New Testaments, but His fans seem to mostly like the sequel much better. Another says only read the Old Testament. Another says to only read the Qur'an. Another says to read the Old and New Testaments AND the Book of Mormon. Another says to just read books by L. Ron Hubbard. Another who doesn't get much attention nowadays says to go by Popol Vuh. There are hundreds more to choose from. The only thing they have in common is they all claim to be The One True One.

 

Guess you just have to choose the right one, eh?

You, like some other posters, are confusing God with Religion, and one poster actually has it backwards. It is organized religion that imposes these disparate rules, not God, although those religions claim to speak for God. You can have God without religion. In fact, the old saw is that God gave us spirituality, and the devil gave us religion. Remember in the old testament, or the Pentateuch, Abraham was "right with God," before there was Judaism, so that is proof, at least according to one religion, that religion isn't needed. So there you go. Don't go blaming God for man's capriciousness.

 

They all claim to be the one true religion, not True One - I think you purposefully equivocated there to make a point. I see how you are working like a religion to rationally construct a world that agrees with your pre-conceived conclusions.
