So has anyone figured out if the Rosen can display the cover artwork from the iPod??? I know this is trivial but I would really like that feature!!

Just installed my unit today (Rosen DS-TY1070-P11) and everything went mostly smoothly. It turns out in a fit of rage I threw my socket set out. (It sucked, I don't blame me). Unfortunately, I only realized them when I had to unbolt the radio from the unit. Another surprise came when I found an extra harness previously installed in my factory radio. Perhaps I had satellite and hadn't realized it? I actually haven't used the radio too often since I purchased the unit. I was then surprised to find out I had an aux port inside the glove box which ruined my plans routing my usb cable inside the glove box. (I think later I will make a hole).

Hi everyone. Great thread, I just read it from start to finish. I am trading in my prius 2006 and was shocked to find out they got rid of the screen. It came stock in all years pre2010. Crazy. Anyways I am physched about buying the new vehicle wo the nav after seeing this. I was thinking about getting the rearview mirror, but this is def more worth it, with bt, nav, and backup.

Does anyone know of a tread where they show pictures of the cam install? I def want to do this, and I have a hookup at a toyota dealership, so I am hoping she can get me a deal on this part, since she works in parts and can get me 10% on cost.

Is there any other accessories anyone recommend?

Also I said I was going to do this in my last prius, but I didnt, I am getting a sound system (bass, amp, all the fun stuff) will this hu be able to interface to an amp and provide me this satisfaction.

Anyone sending me to a good thread, will recieve verbal praises (ok written praises) :)

Thanks all. And great job all.

Search is your friend (camera)... Even at a huge discount, the Toyota camera will be far far more expensive...

Just to enhance rrolff's comment in regards to cost of an OEM Toyota camera (the one that come from factory), the dealer cost for the 2010-11 Prius OEM camera is $747,can be had at parts.com for $551, still crazy $$$

And I'm not sure if that even includes the wire harness...so unless you have extra greenbacks that you normally use for toilet paper, aftermarket is really the way to go.

I paid about $900 for the HU and also got a Rosen DP-1068 Universal CMOS Camera from trail duty. I should have it all installed in a few days. The camera doesn't fit the Prius mounting hole but was easy to mount so that it looks good in the stock Prius position.

Might be a week or two. I need to finish installing it and take the time to do a write-up.

The Rosen was $900. Camera and backup sensors were extra.

I kind've went around in circles and finally had Trailduty sell to me for $866 for the unit including the iPod cable and camera harness.

Others could be better than Rosen, but to each his own. If you read through the threads on this forum you'll note that the Rosen may not be the best at everything it does, but it does get the job done. For me, having a factory look and simple install was worth what it cost me over buying maybe a cheaper, better kenwood, alpine, etc. unit.

Nobody can tell you what's "better". I think you have to decide for yourself what is most important and determine what is "better" for you.

Did you buy the one from rosen or the one from ebay that matches the camry 2009?

So, I plugged in my Ipod a few times, let the Rosen read the songs and it would play one and show the track title and time. It had up and down arrows for the next track and previous track and each track was numbered. You can call up a keypad and key in a track number and the Rosen would go and get it. Odd, I thought. You need to know the track number you want?

Today I hit the menu button and the listings for the tracks came up. DOH!

You can actually push the title and the song will play..

    Sometimes my stupidity scares me....

I had the same discovery a few days ago.:D

With the Rosen, sometimes that's all you have going for you. I'm impressed with the way it works once I figure a function out, unfortunately the manual isn't very good and the interface isn't very intuitive. As long as it keeps working as well as it does, I will get over the learning curve.

Installed the Rosen tonight. So far, so good!!!! Incredibly easy to do(although the plastic dash is a pain!!!!) One question-the lighting(backlighting on the buttons). After installing I had to log into the unit with the installer code and turn on the lights, BUT, they do not function with the headlight switch(like the other dash backlights). The Rosen lights are on all the time-is this normal????

Lovin' this thread. I was torn between a Prius and a new Ford Focus cause I do like gadgets- but this makes the Prius just as good for way less! This Rosen system may be the reason I now buy a Prius! Question- does this work in the Prius II or do I need to get a Prius III in order to install this? I think I read that someone had it working in the II but obviously want to be sure then all the controls from the steering wheel work, etc. Also, anyone in the LA, Ca. area know a good installer? And how much should I expect to pay for installation? Is this something I should do thru the Toyotas dealer or find a good after market? And does that do anything to the cars warranty?

I'd also like it to have the backup camera, and Sirius. Can someone recommend what exactly I need for those- so I can get this all priced out.

Read the threads - at 2K for Toyota nav, that may work for you... Rosen is more expensive than main stream stuff 0 but does look good. It comes with its own complications (many)... Do your research...

Thanks- so many threads I'm trying to go thru them all and find all I can. Seems Rosen saves me closer to $3,500 as I can get the II instead of the III getting a Rosen. Is there a "good and bad" Rosen thread I'm not seeing?

that math is just about right. after the price difference from the II to the III, and sales tax figured into it, i saved 3k. rosen+camera and everything was about 850 bucks.. so a good savings overall.

there is a thread called rosen nav ups and downs or something that might help you with your decision
