So, I have read previous posts, and YES, I have dealt with this before, sorta.

But, regards the tire pressure sensor system. IF I had a flat. Had it repaired and then had it put back on the car AND had the pressure back to where I had it before the flat, I don't need to calibrate the system, right?

In other words, pressures at 35 psi fronts, 33 psi rear. Zero on one tire after flat, but after fix, all are back at 35 or 33.

Not that I MIND recalibrating, but IIRC, the manual is a bit obtuse about how you do it (besides, honestly, mice peed on my manual and I am not all that happy about opening it anymore).

I've driven about 10 miles and the light is still on. It will go off, when it feels like it, right?

It *might* go off after a few off/on cycles of the car. I don't think you'll need to reset them using that little button under the dash (at least, that's where it is in the 2010, and I think I recall it being there on the Gen 2 also). Give it a few days and it should rectify itself on its own.

If not, and you're still under the factory warranty, play dumb at the dealer and let them figure it out. I did that after I programmed one of them incorrectly (I had a wrong character in the one ID) into the ECU and they took care of it under warranty :)

The only time you have to reset the TPMS system is when you change a sensor or want to change the warning pressure level. It sounds to me like they damaged the sensor when they fixed the flat.

You might want to try recalibrating, even though it doesn't seem that you should have to. To avoid having to open your urinated manual, here's the procedure:

    RESET TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR:

    1. Turn hybrid system OFF.

    2. Adjust tire pressure in all four tires to correct pressure.

    3. Operate POWER switch (with foot off brake) to IG-ON position.

    4. Depress and hold the tire pressure warning reset switch (on lower dash beneath the steering wheel) until the tire pressure warning light blinks slowly three times.

    5. Wait a few minutes for the system to stabilize, then operate the POWER switch to the OFF position.

Getting a flat can damage the sensor by itself.

I do not mean to hijack this thread at all, and I apologize in advance....but I have a similar problem.

I always keep my tire psi on my 2007 Prius at 42 front/40 rear. That "tire light" has never come on before.

I had my Prius at the local non-dealer shop, and without asking, the owner told me, " I took a bit of air out of your tires....they were too high and I do not want you to be unsafe driving with that high PSI during these hot summer months." He was just supposed to do the NYS inspection and change the oil/filter. I HOPE he did not damage anything.

Well, around a week later, I notice the "tire light" on. I checked the pressures and they were not really that much lower, around 37 psi. I reinflated them when cold back up to 42/40 just now, but the tire light is still on.

I see the instructions above about resetting it.....but at the risk of sounding very stupid, what do you mean by "Turn the Hybrid system off"....?

I'm hoping I do not even have to do anything, and it will just go away. I know for NYS inspection he had to remove one wheel to look at brakes...could he have hurt something?

Sorry again for butting in this thread. Thank you in advance for any help.

    Frank

Just turn the car off. The procedure is also in the owner's manual. Good luck! :)

Thank you. Do you think I need to reset it? Do they ever reset themselves?
    Could something be wrong?

    Thanks, Frank

I am learning too. I would double check the tire pressure and then reset the TPMS. Then see if the warning light goes away. Other more experienced people may have better idea what's going on.

OP Again: Sorry for the delay in responding.

As mentioned by Wick1ert, the light went off after a cycle or two (specifically, I had flat repaired. I stopped by a friends -- car turned off -- drove home --tire light still on. I then started the car the next morning and light was off.

Light has been off for a couple of days. So, apparently, you don't need to reset, but you do have to wait a couple of "on/off" cycles for the car to realize that you fixed the problem.

And, yes, I do run the tires at the Toyota recommended psi. With the OEM Goodyears, I ran them at 42/40 or whatever most people on here recommend. But, when I bought the new Cooper GFE tires the ride was really harsh at that PSI. They are "O.K." barely at the 35/33 PSI, but will not buy them again.
