Love it, the same people that said a hummer is greener than a prius, now don't like the volt.

    See? That's the good news.
Spinells is THE biggest crock on the planet:

[ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNW_Marketing_Research]CNW Marketing Research - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

He's some shloemoe sitting in his mom's basement in Oregon (no employees ... just a P.O. Box number) most likely . . . typing away as though he's got some kind of authority. I often wondered what his day job is ... or whether he's one of the numerous workers comp fraud artists. He can't be getting paid much, what with NO credibility. Heck . . . with SPINella saying anything negative about the Volt - I'm finding this to be THE most hopefull ray of hope for the Volt, because never has anyone been so wrong.

Most interesting. Also interesting is a piece that appeared recently that stated GM was considering a plug-in Cadallac based on the Volt.

I held my opinion until now ... but that is even more stupid than the Volt. We all said the Volt was an expensive niche vehicle whose niche is very small (a commuter car). Imagine the miniscule niche for a very pricy luxury commuter car.

So, not enough of the "baseball, apple pie, and Chebrolay" faithful want a Volt.

Maybe Chebby/GM will buy the few they've sold back and crush them...

and sell their battery technology/patents to BP, or China

What the heck, it was a successful corporate strategy the last time. :D

I don't trust CNW Marketing or Yahoo! Autos. Both are highly suspect.

Yeah, I was a bit dismayed to see this was on the front of Yahoo recently. After the stupid Hummer and Tahoe greener than a Prius thoroughly debunked junk science that still refuses to die, I don't put any credibility on anything he has to say, whether or not I agree with it.

Prior to the appearance on Yahoo, I first heard of CNW talking about the Volt again at Potential Chevrolet Volt buyers already losing interest? — Autoblog Green

It's a shame that mainstream media picks up his drivel or consults with him.

I particularly like how they mention "Sales of the two vehicles have been marginal, at best" (meaning the Volt and the Nissan Leaf). Isn't there still a waiting list for the Leaf?

Volt, a $41,000 , 3,7xx lb. compact car you'd be embarrased to put 4 grown men into ... 2 would be fighting not to sit in the back.
Is that thing even efficient with electricity? Is there a miles / kWhr rating? How does it stack up to Leaf in that?

What's going to happen to Volt when Prius plug-in is available next year for SL $32k? Who's going to care for the 'all electric' choice anyway. People want the lowest cost, most practical, greenest and most efflicient. Much as it kinda sucks, I think the Plug in Prius is going to clobber the Volt.

The Volt is rated at 94 MPGe (360 Wh/mi) while the LEAF is rated 99 MPGe (340 Wh/mi). Efficiency is basically the same on the highway, but on the city cycle the LEAF is more efficient - probably because of the lighter weight.

I did notice that the 2012 Volt is rated slightly better than the 2011 Volt on the highway - I wonder what they changed.

I don't think PIP is going to clobber Volt. Atleast it looks like more Volts would be produced than PIP & Leaf next year.

With Volt having 3x the EV range of PIP - they will be seen as different class of vehicles. Volt (and PIP) will have a harder time competing with Ford Energi, if Ford gets it right.

It always boils down to sales.

And how do you know how many PIP will actually be produced next year? I would think Toyota's domestic market will get at least double what we get. After all, Prius is the #1 seller there right now.

In terms of "range", that's basically a wash when it comes to price and the current realities of the economy. Getting more by paying more has been the norm for ages. Getting a nice balance for a reasonable price is an entirely different matter.

i don't think it is the case with the Volt. You pay more and you get more EV range but the car is smaller and battery takes up one seat. You get an inferior gas engine in term of MPG and emission. The car also weights more than Equinox SUV. Not a good combo to pay more.

It's more complicated than that. I don't know about The Spinman, he may or may not be a basement dweller, but CNW is a real company. They are an advertising & marketing agency who work with various Detroit based companies. Our quarrel with them is that they were apparently hired to do a smear job on hybrids to slow down entry into the North American market.

As publicity campaigns go, they did a splendid job of putting disinformation out onto the intertubes and even reached into out the old school print media. You and I may disagree with this on the grounds that they were poisoning the well of public discourse and actively sabotaging Americas energy independence, however they may not consider these things to be their responsibility.

The initial campaign seems to have gone satisfactorily. Our evidence for this is that about a year after the first effort they came out with a second one. Their client wouldn't have hired them again if they hadn't been satisfied the first time.

By now Detroit has had time to come out with various hybrid look a likes, so it is likely that the campaigns will end, since they are now attempting to enter these markets.

Yes - but there is enough initial demand to easily sell the volume of Volt they will be producing next year.

Just going by what Toyota told press.

The reality is that a used Civic is a much better bet than either of these vehicles.
