Second layer of gelcoat on this side, and 6 layers+ of mat added this evening. Should be able get two more layup sessions tomorrow, adding 6-8 layers each. That would allow me to crack the mold open Saturday or Sunday. Keep your fingers crossed.

Last layers of glass on the base mold tonight. I'll drill a couple bolts holes tomorrow, trim it, and crack it open tomorrow. See if it turned out like it's supposed to.

I got a new fiberglass roller, and it's sooo nice to watch all those tiny air bubble disappear! I wont be able to use it inside the mold, but the mold will be damn solid!!

I called the place Ryan took his car into, and they wanted 1050 for amp, speaker, and custom box. for both sides they wanted 1900.

I rather build this box on my own or pay someone to make me one. I know I can get all the other parts much cheaper.

I have a couple car part orders to take care of, but in a couple weeks I'll start on the left side box.

I'm gonna crack the mold open today and check it out. If it's ready, I'm going to make one for Inseek and let him test it out. When I do start selling them, I'll need to know what sub model you are using so I can try to find the cut-out measurements.

    Hi Tim.
Here's mine to keep on file. I will need to know volume. Thanks.

Wow, that that's a sub. Fortunately it appears it doesn't take much volume but the depth might be a problem.
What does that bad boy cost?

once I get one with a face on it, I'll fill it up with water and measure the amount.

OR! I could weight it empty, then weight it full....nah, scale isn't accurate enough.

The mold is trimmed, drilled, washed. Need to wax it a few times, and start laying one up. I have a bumper to make, so I'll make a few layers while I'm at it.

Safety first! I always wear polycarbonate lenses in my glasses. Part of my cut-off wheel chipped and flew into my arm. Yeah, not my eyes, but my eyes wouldn't have liked it.

It does sound good. Sub alone was $250. Worked in ShawnB2's.

Tim, the JL Audio Stealth people were not interested in this market. My bet is there are others watching your progress with hope.

Making it surface mounted , versus recessed, might help by adding 3/4" depth

I was thinking about this one as well to compliment my HSK 163 and HCX 165, but tHX250D is HUGE! And heavy as well - almost twice the weight of JL 10W3.

Recessed looks better. But that's me, I rather prefer to use a speaker that will fit and will have good OEM grille like JL's than trying to fit a monster that will stick out.

I had the fleeting thought of a carbon fiber face, and spraying truck bed liner on the back. But that's big$$ with the time involved

I would venture most of us just want a quality product that sounds good and is reasonable priced. Gelcoat finish would be nice, but cost does limit demand. If the blank is sturdy, most things are possible.
