Great improvement on the MPG numbers + bigger trunk! Also I finally noticed the side mirrors look like they can finally fold, woohoo, about time lol! Can't wait to see this in October.

Hybrid trunk is also much longer than before - it is 5.5" deeper.

somewhere it was noted that Toyota engineers told them that minimal consumption of camry hybrid is lower than prius.

Crazy... Toyota got best MPG in the class without DI, Valvematic, or lion batteries...

That's not too shabby. My mom's 07 NAH has a TINY trunk (quick digging shows numbers between 9.1 to 10.6 cu ft) and no pass thru.
I wonder if the HS will also get it since the HS was used the the pre-MY2012 HyCam powertrain.

Overall, from the pics, I don't really like the exterior styling too much. I think the Sonata Hybrid looks better. Interior looks to be a step up w/the stitching on the dash but the styling seems a bit "busy" (somewhat like the Lexus IS300).

Mileage figures are very impressive given the 200 net hp. It'll be interesting to see how it translates into Consumer Reports test figures. On CR tests, the FFH doesn't really do any better than the pre-MY2012 HyCam (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/...ce/most-fuelefficient-cars/overview/index.htm) yet the FFH has much higher EPA numbers. I guess Nissan was right to kill the NAH as it'd look pretty uncompetitive specwise with less hp and much lower EPA numbers.

I'm hoping Toyota can eke a few more mpg out of the Prius v wagon given its low hp.

I am trying to understand what the enginners meant by "minimal consumption of camry hybrid is lower than prius"

    This is outrageous!

No kidding! The new 2.5L HSD delivers 43 city / 39 highway very close to Prius v(ee) and Lexus CT200h with 1.8L HSD yet Camry hybrid is 3 full seconds faster!

TCH is now as light as the V6 model. It is ~200 lbs heavier than the I4 base model but it offers 200hp and 41 combined MPG (killer combo).

I think it means it has less than 220 g/kWh.

for tideland - Canadian specs show 4cly being 7l/100km (vs Sonata at 7.3l/100km)... but Hybrid numbers are not out yet.

Probably not. The Prius v is being marketed to the minivan crowd, and you can always change more from soccer moms. They don't buy based on science. They buy based on "we HAVE to have a minivan. It's for the kids!" ... and that's the end of it.

My sister drives an SUV "to protect [her] kids." I explained to her that cars have airbags, ABS, crash test scores, and all kinds of stuff. Do we see massive deaths of people in cars compared to SUVs? Not exactly. She still responded "well, I'm keeping the SUV because it protects the kids." There was no getting through on science/ration on this one.

Mothers also HAVE to have a minivan, and I'm sure they also HAVE to have a Prius v when it comes out.

If you go to the Toyota website, you will see the Prius v is clearly marketed towards the minivan crowd; families with kids ... http://www.toyota.com/upcoming-vehicles/prius-family/

Unfortunately, SUVs do have lower death rates than cars, mainly due to physics (see http://www.iihs.org/externaldata/srdata/docs/sr4605.pdf). However, large SUVs and trucks have TERRIBLE accident avoidance capabilities. I am definitely not for the arms race of driving the biggest, heaviest vehicle I can (e.g. 5200+ lb. monstrosity battering rams of death aka full-sized SUVs). In the absence of any regulations (e.g. CAFE), it would keep escalating and never end. Unfortunately, vehicles like the H2 and Excretion were exempt.

As for crash tests, for NHTSA tests (from http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Shoppers/Resources/NHTSA+5-Star+Ratings+FAQ):
Same goes for IIHS frontal tests (http://www.iihs.org/ratings/frontal_test_info.html):
I'm ok with people driving large cars, SUVs, minivans or other vehicles that are commensurate w/actual need. In many cases, a minivan or small or medium sized SUVs is adequate or more than enough.

I'd rather mothers have a minivan than a full-sized SUV. I'd much rather mothers have a Prius v than a minivan, if the v meets their needs.

What I abhor is people driving guzzler battering rams of death solo or w/minimal cargo and passengers without any thought about consequences (e.g. safety of other drivers, our dependence on foreign oil, etc.). Some of those people haven't a clue, unfortunately. :(

    It's a family-oriented cross-over. Absolutely not a wagon or van. No, sir.

it is an small MPV, whatever marketing wants to call it.

In Europe, small MPV is a big part of automotive sales, and they call them for what they are - MPVs!

I didn't think Toyota could design a front end uglier than the Highlander Hybrid. Until I saw the new Camry Hybrid.

I was thinking, they made the last rev Corolla look more like a Camry, and now they made this one look more like a Corolla. Bummer. I do like the bump in hp in the hybrid. It's a shame, since the Camry was already an excellent ride, and now it will be much better, just fugly. Dang.

Just some NimH batteries, a couple of electric motors, advanced valve control, regenerative braking....
Yes, the new Camry is a return to the simplicity of the Model T.

it just shows there is so much that can be done still, at the price $$$. With Valvematic, DI, and lion with more capacity, you could get even better mpg with 2012 TCH as starting point.

On the other hand, Sonata Hybrid was introduced 4 months ago and its powertrain has been eclipsed already by more than 10%.
