I just received the Scangage II and wonder if it can display the inverter temperature?

Is there an ideal operating temperature range for the MG1 and MG2 Inverters?

According to the 2010 Repair Manual for Normal operation:

    While driving at an ambient temperature of 77°F (25°C): 59°F (15°C) to 230°F (110°C)

With the 90 to 100 F ambient temperatures that we have been seeing lately I have been seeing around 150 F.

so the scangage should have a fIC gage? or what would it be? I flicked through the gages and didn't see anything like ICF or fIC.

^ no, you have to add it in. Look in the Xguages section of the manual.

^^ No, its not there either. Look for Adrian Black's Prius-specific XGauges pointers here, or go to the Toyota-specific list on Scangauge's website, which will end up at the same Google spreadsheet page.

It's on Andrian Black's Prius Gen III XGauge Spreadsheet version 1.2- you need to program it into the scangaugeII as a user Xgauges like SoC or BtT.

    row 39 Inverter MG1 Temp (name=I1C)
    row 40 Inverter MG2 Temp (name=I2C)
row 41 Inverter Coolant temp (name=ICF)

(background: one might monitor Inverter temperatures for overheating if the inverter cooling air intakes were blocked to increase thermal efficiency AND the Prius was being driven at superhighway speeds intermittently.)

I meant for him to learn how to enter XGuages into the SG by means of the manual. I assumed the spreadsheet was already pointed out.

@ spiderman, I had a doofus moment. sometimes you have to hit me over the head with it for me to understand what you mean. I don't do subtle very well. LOL

    I do appreciate the reply.

    Me neither. :D

So did you get the XGuages setup yet?

Are the "intakes" you refer to above the rectangular holes that are shown in the attached picture?

I blocked these holes, mainly to prevent road dirt and grime from being sucked up into the engine compartment. I considered beforehand whether this would cause overheating of the inverter, but decided that it would not for the following reasons: 1) the inverter is water cooled and the air intake for its radiator is through the front grill vents; 2) during the summer when inverter cooling is more critical, the air coming up through those holes would be hot from the high temperature of the road surface; 3) the holes are designed to accept covers with predrilled plastic rivet fastener holes and appear to be for inspection of the hoses and connections.

The above said, I am considering buying a scangauge to confirm the above and appreciate the information you provided on how to program it.

If anyone knows - does monitoring the inverter coolant temp give an approximation to the MG1 and MG2 temperatures? Or do they run separately thermally and need to be monitored separately . Thanks.
