Thank you, Danny. That's comforting to hear. There's definitely a community feeling here, and that's why I continue to be part of it. :)

Life is full of distractions. Whether you pursue or ignore them is entirely up to you. For some people, detours and getting lost are frustrating, and for some they're an adventure.

It is, and it isn't. Like the detour, it's your attitude that makes the difference, and how you choose to see it. It can be a complete waste of time, or it can be the coolest library/coffee shop you could ever imagine.

I think this is the danger in doing something like this. If post count is made 'meaningful', it will convey a certain authority on what the person is saying. Without that advice necessarily having the slightest bit of merit.

I agree with what efusco said, actually. Most people, if they contribute to the Prius related discussion, will generate a lot of posts. Same with the other side of that. However, it seems unlikely that someone with a lot of FHOP posts would partake in the Prius aspect unless they genuinely had an interest.

In theory, the most posts a member has related to the Prius forums, the more knowledge they've gathered, and more than likely, the more meaningful their advice is. If I go to a forum where I'm new, I'm more likely to give more trust into the user with a larger amount of posts than a newer user. It's sort of human nature to associate the two items together.

At least, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I have no clue how much that makes sense, or if it makes any. I just got home today following 2 days @ Cedar Point Amusement Park and an 8 hour drive back home today so my mind may not be functioning well :)

    Good idea!

I joined to learn about the Prius. Somewhere along the way I lost interest in the car as a topic of conversation. Probably when my focus shifted to electric cars. I remember when FHOP was created, as a way to prevent non-Prius conversations from clogging up the car forums. FHOP and FHOPol serve a useful purpose, but as this is intended principally as a Prius forum, I see no reason why posts in those forums should count toward a total post count.

But then I place little importance on post count, except when an inflammatory comment comes from someone who has apparently joined just to post that comment.

I'm like Daniel. I came to learn about my car; I learned what I wanted to, but stuck around because I like the people, and they mostly hang out at Fred's.

A post count of under a dozen or so is a good way to quickly see if somebody is a troll or not, but more than that, it doesn't matter.

Politicos can't count anyway. All the numbers I see on CNN MSNBC, and FOX always seem to be skewed!!!! Jethro Bodine could do his ciphers and they seemed to make sense...

    Danny,
This chatgroup is supposed to be about Priuses--not politics or religion or whatever.
I wish you would go a bit further , and makes Fred's Forums history.
Get rid of them. They add nothing to the Prius discussion. At the least, isolate Fred's forums so Fred's threads don't come up in "unread posts".

    thanks. :)

They keep the old members coming back. Without Fred's, many of us would wander off and find some other interesting nook of the Internet. Fred's works like bread and milk at the grocery store: we come in for it, but end up shopping in the other aisles.

I think FHOP has a purpose, but I like the idea of those posts not being included in the New Posts search. That way those who want to visit FHOP can still do so, but those who are more interested in the Prius specific topics can still see the latest posts without having to weed through the off topic posts included from the FHOP area.

Exactly. But they aren't related. It is a false signal.

oh great . . . see - all this time I thought it was "he with the largest 'you-know-what' wins" . . . . . 'you-know-what' meaning kWh's of PV surplus. See what I did?
    :p

You can take away my posts ... just keep your hands off my 'thanks'.

This post was just to see my new post count + 1...

EDIT: not retroactive??? I expected a 98% drop from my 2,229 posts.

I've never liked post counts in general in forums. Someone could have tons of posts which have added nothing to a site compared to someone with just a few but those few have all been meaningful and informative. People who frequent a site know who is who, they do not need to rely on a post counter. So imo this is a good start in the right direction.
