    Hi all,

In Australia, we have the typical (of most cars that is) metal fuel tank.... no bladders here.

The tank is a 45 litre one.

I'd like to find out how many litres are left when the low fuel warning light comes on. Just so we can say on the trip-meter, it's done X km's per X litres (judged by when the fuel light comes on). I'm assuming there may be 5 litres left in the tank when the light comes on.

An easy way to find out the information you're after is run the car low and then fill it. If the car takes 38 litres then you know there's 7 litres in reserve.

Hi Stormz. If I run it until the last pip flashes then I typically refill at about 42.5 to 43 liters. So I'd guess there's only about 2 to 2.5 liters remaining. I'd say the maximum I've ever driven after the last pip starts flashing is about 30km. I've haven't yet run out of petrol and I don't plan to push it any further.

Driving to Canberra from Maldon Victoria last summer I drove 160 KMs after the last bar beeped and filled with 42 and a bit litres. I once filled it with 46 litres. I didn't over fill the filler tube. (???)

Feri, was that on a Gen2 Prius or was it on a Gen3 as per your sig?

The OP here has a 2008 model and so I think this info should be specific to the Gen2.

    Hi all
I drive for 100 kms after the last pip starts flashing.I reset one of my tripmeter to 0 when I first hear the beep so I clearly know how many km's and at what average I have left in the tank. It ends up with 41-42 liters after the 100 kms that I fill which means I have enough reserve to take it further in case of an emergency in future.

for the month of august my wife and i clocked about 1,020 km (633mi) and was waiting for a beep or blinking but nothing came up so pulled over to the gas station and filled up with 44.7 liters (11.49 gal) auto-stop. could there be something wrong with the sensors?
