The headlights on my 2008 Prius failed. Of course, it is over 3 years and 50,000 miles so does not qualify for Toyota to replace on their extended warranty. Anyone else have this problem?
This is no small thing and they should be taking care of this issue. My right headlight went off and I took it in. Of course, it was working when I got there so didn't get it fixed. Soon after I was driving at night and both headlights went out at once. Very frightening! The next morning, they were working again. My only option was to have them fixed at a cost of $550 to replace 2 little bulbs. I am not confident at all now driving at night. This certainly seems like it is an electrical issue of some sort. Toyota needs to come clean and take care of their product. I've seen too many of this same complaint to think it is just a fluke or coincidence that both lights went out at once.

This is a common problem, with hundreds of posts dedicated to it on PriusChat. Search is your friend.

You can easily replace the bulbs yourself for less than $100 for the pair.

Yep, well it's more like ~$100. I bought http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Xenon-Headlight-Bulb-Pack/dp/B00480J4J6 these and changed my flaky passenger's side one myself (thanks to the wealth of threads and videos here) since I was a bit past the extended warranty granted by the class action suit.

The bulb that I removed was a German made Philips D4R bulb and that's what theese replacements were too.

I also submitted my claim and got the reply I mentioned at http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...id-class-action-settlement-award-letters.html.

Don't know if they're still doing it . . . but at one time, Toyota was pony'ing up cash due to all the burnouts. Ours have been going strong since 2004. strange how that works.

I can't speak to the ponying up cash but you might want to add your data to http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...ius-owners-w-hids-how-long-did-they-last.html. It seems that the D4R bulbs used on the 06-09 HID equipped Priuses are less reliable than the D2R bulbs and system used on the 04-05. :(
