I have decided to buy a Prius and was set to buy a 2011. Now I read that the 2012 Prius will likely have a mid cycle refresh, with changes in styling and packages.

Standard backup camera standard on all 2012 models, along with touchscreen, changed front fascia, new tail lights .

Does anyone have information on when the 2012's will be available? (I'm not interested in the new plug in, just the Prius 3 )
I've waited this long maybe I can wait a little longer. (I hope there is not a shortage of 2012 Prius as there has been with the 2011's.)

By "Prius 3", you mean Gen 3 or 3rd Gen Prius, right? By Prius 3, you're creating a source of confusion by possibly implying Prius (model) Three. The 2011 Prius is available in model/grades Two thru Five (Toyota USA Newsroom | Toyota Announces Pricing for New 2011 Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, and Pricing Adjustment for 2011 Prius, Venza, and FJ Cruiser) Formerly, they used Roman numerals (Toyota Vehicles : Toyota Announces Prices for 2010 Prius / Toyota).

It has not been officially announced yet when the 2012 Prius will be 'out' and hitting showrooms for sale.

Sorry for the confusion, I was not specific enough. I meant the current Prius Model 3,listed for $24520.00 on the Toyota Prius site.

I wanted the Model 3 because I wanted the I-Pad interface and the navigation package with backup camera. (Looks like the 2012's may have the backup camera on all models in which case maybe I could get by with a Model 2 if I waited for the 2012's)

    :welcome:

According to my dealer, they cannot take a 2012 order until mid-december. I would guess late January is the earliest you could actually get in your car and drive it away. I would keep my eyes open for a deal on a 2011, otherwise order a 2012 if nothing comes up.

I sold my 2006 Prius to my daughter and am also waiting for the 2012.

Wow that's later than I had thought. So even in early January 2012, I wouldn't be able to drive away in a 2012 Prius, I'd have to take a 2011. I don't think I want to wait that long I may go for a 2011.

My dealer said that all 2012 Toyota hybrids will have some type of electronic external noise generator that will run whenever the vehicle is operating in EV mode. Your desire to have or not have this feature may help sway you toward a 2011 or 2012.

IMO, they should make the noise generator be a downloadable sound file, like a ring tone. Some folks might like a little bicycle bell or an ice cream truck jingle. I'm thinking along the lines of a '69 big block Chevy with a lumpy cam.

So I can order one on October 1, but it won't be ready for pickup until February 2012. That is probably too long for me to wait for my Prius, I think I'll likely go with a 2011.

    Thanks for the info.

you could technically get on your dealers list anytime (if they will do it this way) since your order isn't an order. You cannot 'order' a car from Toyota. You get in line, tell em what you want and they find what you want and slot it for delivery to their dealership. The car isn't built for 'you' when you order it. I ordered my 2010 which came out in May 2009 in something like August 2008 just so I could be #1 on my dealers list.

This is general information so you know how their ordering works, it won't help in still having to wait till that time next year for a 2012...

FYI--the "initial order acceptance" date is for orders accepted by Toyota from the regions/dealers (not customers, since Toyota doesn't accept orders directly from customers).

I'm a little disappointed the 2012 Prius won't be available until we are into 2012.
I thought most model years came out in the fall of the year before.

I understand that my local Car Max will hold a car if I give them a non-refundable $500 deposit. Most likely I'll wait until the type and color 2011 Prius I want is on their computer listings then come in and make a deposit. Don't want to wait months for the 2012's.

I have had bad experiences at dealers before so this time I want to go with a dealer that has a set price, no bargaining, and no attempts to deceive the customer.
. Car Max seems to be this way. Also Fitzgerald which I learned of on this forum is also no haggle, so I will be checking their inventory.

Well, I've been in touch with my dealer since early Aug. Trying to get a 2011 Prius 3 in Blizzard Pearl with moonroof option...None available... Dealer called me at lunch today and they said they are starting to place (regional) orders for 2012s & hopefully will see in another 3-4 weeks?!
I really don't mind 2011 or 2012, but after reading posts here, I may be looking at a longer wait....
Thankfully I already drive a fine 2008 White Prius, which makes me know the reason I'm sticking with the Prius. I know it's worth the wait!

In the prius v forum, a CA dealer says she has two in now. If that's true maybe the v-wagon will be the only 2012 model available for the next month or so?

My wife and I are expecting a voucher to get a $3500 credit towards a new hybrid. The voucher is only good for 30 days once we get it. If the v is the only 2012 we can get we'll probably get it. After we start having kids we'll probably be glad we got it.

Does that mean the dealer thinks the 2012's will be available in 3-4 weeks? That would be good news, based on the chart posted in this thread earlier I thought the 2012's wouldn't be available until Feb. 2012.

The way toyota has named all these models is making it really hard to do any internet research on the regular prius as well. I am trying to google the availability of this regular prius but i can't get anything other than plug in or v
