Yeah I had misread it to be 2500 for a vehicle with 5kw capacity but its 2500 + 417 if its 5kw and 417 for each over.

So the charge port has moved to the right rear? Is this for folks who drive on the wrong side of the road and will move back to the original, front left side of the car for the USA? Also with the plug in getting all the press did anyone notice this: "As for the revised Toyota Prius Hybrid, the car comes with a few improvements both at the interior and exterior design, while its Hybrid Synergy Drive powertrain has been improved by 26 percent in terms of CO2 emissions, and by 30 percent in terms of power." That's the first I've heard of the 2012 getting more power. 30% increase is huge!
Probably allowing more assist from the pack in HV mode. I think the engine and motor will be unchanged from gen3.
They are also stating 1.2-1.4mi electric for + and regular prius. That is a huge increase. Bigger battery=less hp starved motor. But since our V is staying NiMH we probably won't see that either huh?
Power mode is the only one that comes close to providing consistency with other cars. I'm happy in Eco (or normal) and it's fine for me because the Prius is my commuter. But for my wife, who commutes in a Civic, or anybody else who regularly has to switch between cars that consistency is more important. "Compatibility mode" would be a better name.
either its capacity or Toyota expects us to be drag racing. that would be 3.1 miles /Kwh which would be pretty poor. i say its capacity with about 85% of it being usable. that puts it at 3.7 miles/kwh which is still pretty poor (i average 4.4 in summer freeway, 5.5-6 in summer town driving and 3.4 in winter freeway)
Some capacity will be reserved for HV driving too, since getting around 50 MPG after depletion requires battery availability. .
While I get 70 mpg (167 wh/mile shaft-wheel) in my G2 Prius. Now lets go back to EPA (or maybe NEDC) drive cycle results for the best apples to apples comparo available for now.
Toyota Prius plug-in (Francfort 2011) ? La Chevrolet Volt trouve à qui parler - Nouveautés auto - nouvelObs.com
With EV mode selected, Prius Plug-in Hybrid is able to draw upon the full capacity of the battery and will remain in electric drive mode, allowing for urban driving with minimal noise and zero CO2 and NOX emissions, for up to approximately 14.5 miles at speeds of up to 53mph. The air conditioning is coordinated with the standard front seat heaters. I found those interesting things from the official Toyota UK press release.
Maybe it's the reduced pack size putting a lower limit. Or do they just mean that above 53 the range will drop significantly?
I'm pulling together as many photos as possible in this gallery: 2012 Prius Plug-In - Official Photos | PriusChat Great job parsing all of this information, guys. If anyone wants to write an article for the PC frontpage, let me know. I'd appreciate the help
Also from the Toyota UK press release today: 2% of Euro 6 allowed non-diesel Nox. Damn Translated, a 'clean' diesel can spew up to 67 fold Nox/distance than an PiP.
With some 3.6 kwh usable battery you won't get 14 miles @ 53 mph. I think 14 miles will be using the urban cycle. In EV mode EPA can't do the highway cycle.
