    No, GM told us numbers over 200mpg. Then had to back down. GM also didn't allow real world studies with customers whereas the plugin prius did. I would guess the real world fuel economy would be very close to the real world fuel economy of the all the prototypes driving around. And they are happy to show you the MFD or talk about it, not as hush-hush as GM.

    I would guess that the constraint is running factories at full boar to make up on the supply deficit isn't conducive to making surplus of another new model. And this isn't to say it is Toyota's factories (or Hondas) but suppliers all across that region. People may forget things fast around here, but it will be years before things are even close to normal output from that side of the pond and decades before things are "back to normal".

    HV stealth EV range in addition pure EV range? if you manually switch modes?

    OK stand corrected. I thought the old number was 20,000 phv's in the united states. I was using the us numbers for pricing, so I guess that old toyota number was too high and its 15,000. Volt estimates are 45,000, and the leaf more than 100,000. That is why I said the phv will be production constrained.

    More to the question. What will the phv do on the EPA test and what will it be priced at?

    Its 2011, I don't think anyone believed 200mpg then and certainly don't think anyone does now. But about this time back people were complaining that gm would not release the epa, including the poster I replyed to. I just want them to be consistent. The only numbers we get from toyota today is 134 mpg, in a similar non informative test like the volts 230. I don't think that real world testing with a different battery pack and software in the demo cars was to get real world numbers out. Color me different. I thought it was because they wanted to modify the design and get feedback. toyota orginally was going to ship a phv in 2010, they delayed it. This may be a good thing, but give me a break if you think toyota the demos mean that they shouldn't tell us what the production cars will do on the test.


    Not just that, but a lot more money to ramp up quickly and more risk is incurred. As I said, I think it is appropriate to do a ramp at this pace. The risk for nissan is much greater though and people seemed to get really mad at them. Not releasing the pricing has nothing to do with what hill said, thinking about selling huge numbers in the first year. The earthquake has much less impact than originally thought though, and that is a good thing. Global recession has a lot to do with not blowing the doors off of production.

    This article said the executives decided the price have to be affordable ($28k to $30k) before the tax incentive.

    No it doesn't.

    It says that:
    - The US sweet spot for the Prius HEV is $26k
    - The engineers focused on keeping price down when designing the PHV.
    - A Pike (studies clean/renewable energy) analyst says that it will be wildly successful if priced between $28k and $30k.

    Ok, just read the article, and don't really know options in the US or price. We can "hope" it is priced affordably.

    The article said the battery is 5.2kwh, I believe that was the demo and production is actually 4.4 kwh and 80kg. That should help keep costs down as they likely can used the same suspension as the normal Gen III. Does anyone have a figure on usable SOC?

    Not a question of what highway speed can be used in real-life. EPA has a highway cycle and PHV will not be able to do that cycle without the engine starting.

    That's a little misleading. Just because the engine begins to spin after surpassing the EV threshold does not mean it is actually consuming any gas.

    Of course, Prius is a hybrid. Using a wee bit o gas from time to time is what it does anyway. It's purpose isn't an absolute eliminatation. It's a significant reduction.

    for any car, pricing is usually revealed a month before start of sales... maybe for PHEV it will be sooner since there is no previous version.

    You got offical European cycle numbers from Toyota, with Prius PHEV reveal in... Europe.

    on the other hand, from GM you got misinformation, as always.

    Those two should not be confused.

    Yes, we can hope. Fueleconomy.gov estimates $27k to $34k minus $2.5k tax credit.

    I agree with Spwolf, this is from Offical European cycle numbers. Remember when the Prius v was introduced by Toyota(the car was not EPA-tested yet), Toyota said a combined of 40. Then later after testing, EPA said a combined of 42. The Prius phv is probably is not yet tested in the US.

    I don't think you are getting the point.

    EPA has a certain cycle to go through to give mpg(e) ratings. If a vehicle (in EV mode) can't perform as needed in that cycle, they can't rate that vehicle for that cycle.

    I believe it'll show mpge gasoline+electricity for CD and then gasoline mpg for CS.

    IMHO this is a distinction without a difference. Both companies showcased tests that simply ignored electric miles. My problem is not in the reporting, but in the fanbois not understanding this, and I don't include you in this group.

    I was hoping to see more of the toyota blended range and efficiency information in this announcement. I'll have to wait for that, but if you thought you wanted it for the volt, I would thing you would want the information on the phv prius.

    Hey they put it in the ballpark with the prius v. On the US cycle we don't have anything, and I am sure they have run some tests. The pricing is important because the big pr campaign is small battery for lower price. I simply thought we would get more information.

    When the demo cars came out I thought that the battery needed to shrink to be more inline with the size and weight of the competition, that it needed to give the driver more control of when the battery is used, and that it needed a higher capacity battery. Toyota announced two out of three of these today, but other articles had given the information before. The surprise was a smaller capacity 4.4kwh versus the demo 5.2kwh battery. Without the missing information - price and blended electric range - its tough to judge this change.

    I can't find that anyone has yet mentioned if the bar MPG graph per minute(s) and the Cons. can display beyond 99.9

    I agree, but I think they will probably announce pricing before the online order program. We are still about 6 months away from delivery.

    I don't think they will wait til the next big event in the US, to launch it here in the Los Angeles Autoshow which runs from November 18-23, 2011. All the specs we have so far are for the European edition.

    I have been looking also. I think because the UK mileage rating for this car is >100mpg, I am guessing the mileage indicator now has 3 digits+ a decimal.

    'cause if it doesn't, then FAIL. Agree, I would guess "yes" as well. Decimal - hehehehe. I sure want to be able to tell if I did 136.8mpg vs. 136.5 ;)
