Thanks Spiderman for the offer of help, but I'm afraid of breaking things when removing panels, etc. I guess I'll have to pay the frieght at the Toyota dealer! :(

Tommy is a stereo guy (his shop is Music Box), so a stereo shop is your best bet. He charged only $100 for a 1.3 hour job. If you're uncomfortable doing this mod, paying the $100 is a no brainer.

Someone like Tommy can do it a lot cheaper, but hey you have no problem paying through the nose ;)

Unless there is a difference in our mirrors, I see what I did wrong in mounting the mirror into the housing... the bottom two tabs slide into the slots and the top two latch. I just pushed the mirror straight on IIRC. Going to have to look at it this weekend to make sure.

yeah, I wish I had a "Tommy" here.....but my darned stereo dude STILL won't answer any calls/texts/emails..... Kinda irritating me --- A LOT!!! lol I need him to do the folding mirrors, cause it's kinda involved (after I sat and looked thru everything they sent me), and I don't want some strange stereo place scratching my car and dash all up.....

As a reminder I was trying to tell you all before that I did not think side mirrors were snapped in correctly. I also noted that one of my mirrors had no tape from factory...
I added 3m foam tape as to keep it from rattling not that it was before...LOL... Hope it works out for you:)

Anyone know of a good installer around the Bay Area? I called Luscious Garage since they specialize in everything Prius, but the mechanic in charge said he'd never done this mod before...

I did it right. The tabs were in the slots. I think the trick is to keep the adhesive very clean and then when assembling, press firmly (in the middle) and hold for a length of time. Seems to give the adhesive bonding time. All is well.

My experience suggests that it doesn't matter how clean the surfaces are, double-sided adhesive tape doesn't stick well to the white plastic material (nylon?) of the mirror mount. I tried both alcohol and stronger solvents to clean the surfaces before each attempt. Even the 3M trim adhesive didn't stick that well to the back of the mirrors, let alone the mirror mounts - it easily peeled off when it should have stuck like hell.

Perhaps the white adhesive is heat activated & needs a heat gun treatment before re-installation. The one mirror I installed using hot melt glue is staying on.

I just recently had these lights installed on my Prius and I absolutely love them. For anyone on the fence about installing these lights, it will be well worth the investment.

  11. I agree, I just installed a set of these lights as well with the $20 paint job...not too bad at all. There is a very slight color difference in the WGM color but overall the paint quality is very good.

I've only had these lights installed for 3 days but have been approached by 4 people in various parking lots complimenting the "very OEM" look.

Did you install these yourself? If not, who installed them? I have the kit and am considering having the Toyota dealer install it!

  14. Yessir, installed it myself. It wasn't too bad considering the information and pictures in this thread. When I first received the kit I started calling around to some car stereo installation places but most wouldn't touch the kit because it wasn't "DOT approved" lighting

I finally got my side mirrors installed & love them. I tried my Toyota dealer and they said no way. Called a large chain of car stereo stores in my area. Although their tech had never done one of these before, he took on the challange and did a fantastic job. Everything taken apart went back clean with no damage.

Question to those of you who installed the lights.

For the Pilot light option, is that on all the time regardless of whether or not your headlights are on? I'm kind of confused as to when it's on.

Only on when parking or headlights are on.

So, do you have any experience with all that wiring kind of stuff? I'm afraid I'd blow my circuitry out or something! lol! My folding mirrors and the signal mirrors are all piled in boxes in my bathroom, and finding someone to do them is on my list of things to do.....but I couldn't even begin to imagine doing any of it myself... Is all the wiring and everything you need all included in the kit? I hadn't even paid much attention to it since I got it, so not sure !

  19. Actually this was my first time splicing or quick connecting anything. Ripping the door panels, replacing the mirror covers, routing the wiring, etc. is all pretty straightforward (because of the picture and advice in this thread). My box came with the minimum amount of wiring and 4 3M quick connects and pretty much no directions, just a super high level diagram. If you're unsure about the wiring...just find a indy car stereo place to do it for you. They'll have the same access to all the wiring schematics that the big name car stereo installation places will have. On top of costing a lot more....the big name places also said that they wouldn't be able to provide a lifetime warranty since they didn't sell the product to me.

OK just ordered my mirrors in Black (202 code painted).
Has anyone seen issues with heat or LED burning out?

Has the voltage been steady 12V at the points used or are the LEDs being over driven 13v or more at times?

Anyone add resistors or voltage regulators?

I am ordering stuff now like posi-taps to help make my connections.
What guage wire is used in the lights?
    Thanks.
