    You're kidding? :eek: Heck all our school buses do, at least in my town. In fact they've almost copied the American model probably due to the US base nearby - school buses are yellow etc. Yet cars are able to pass school buses when their loading/unloading whereas I think in the US this is illegal? Do some buses flash their lights or have a mechanical arm or is that from the 1960's?

    There have actually been studies that show that school buses are safer without seat belts. It sounds strange but it seems to be true. The seat backs are designed to take most of the hit. Imagine the rescue personnel having to unbuckle that number of people in that kind of hurry.

    In comparison to other vehicles, very few people are killed in school bus crashes.

    My brother-in-law does a lot of work in China. His record is seeing 7 people on a scooter, but he is pretty confident that eventually he will see one with even more.

    They are BIG, bright yellow with flashing lights, and you get zero sympathy from anyone if you hit one.

    Most school bus accidents come from driving the bus off the road.

    No belts except for the first row usually. The swinging STOP sign arm is still standard and it is illegal to pass one when the lights are flashing and/or the arm is out. Because that means children are right by the road and may just jump out from the schoolbus to cross to the other side.

    Unfortunately, in some areas cost cutting has forced school districts to contract for bus services with municipal transportation authorities. Even driving the same buses, they can no longer be yellow or use the flashing lights and swinging stop signs.

    New laws may change this, but for now it is a step backward from the standpoint of safety.
