    :noidea: OK I searched a little and didn’t see anything; financially I will be able to put my down payment on a Prius February of next year. However; if the images shown on this sight are really for the regular Prius and not the plug in one then it now looks like the Gen 2 Prius. And if it is going to make that space shuttle noises then why bother? If all those things are true then Toyota sorry but you have lost a sale because I won’t be buying. But my question is why did Toyota just now introduce the plus package when they are "supposedly" giving it a refresh? So if it’s really going to look and sound like that then I’m going to choose a Chevy Volt, Do y’all think the Chevy Volt is good? :noidea:

    To each his or her own. If you don't like the Prius don't buy one. We are all pretty sure the Pedestrian Warning System will be defeated by one of our kick nice person members as soon as thier new car gets home, I would not worry about that.

    I don't have anything bad to say about the Volt, nor have I really cared to research about it much. You can't really believe all GM's hype about it though.

    Maybe you will change your mind by next year? Keep us posted.

    There wasn't a choice for "I don't really care", so I didn't vote.

    If you're going to eschew the G3 because of a user-defeatable safety feature, then I'd say you don't really want one badly enough to pay MSRP (in this economy) for the car in the first place.
    The G3+ looks pretty much like the G3 to me, but I haven't seen one in person. I really don't think it looks like a G2 at all, but you're entitled to your opinion, and you may have seen one up close and in person.

    I haven't seen a for-real PHV either, but to my untrained eyeballs it pretty much looks like a G3.

    You're not going to get many favorable endorsements for "that other car" on this site. PC isn't "PC" where the GM product is concerned.
    In the very unlikely event that you really are considering the Volt, then I'd suggest that you visit one in person, and maybe take it out for a spin.

    ive test drove both and like both but i just didnt want to buy premium gas but i might.

    i have test driven both and like both, and i though it would be ok to ask a question about a volt, considering ive seen honda insight info and oppinions on here

    No other brand of hybrid has yet to compare to the Toyota Prius in terms of longevity(10 years & 1 million sold).
    The Prius is the most reliable and in its third generation, continually improving. Chevy Volt and the rest have yet to prove themselves & don't match the Prius in overall MPG.
    I guess I'm partial, I have two Prii, Gen II & III.

    Oh...you'll GET opinions!

    I've got some stick time in the Insight. Neat little car. I have some questions about the value, and some concerns about their CVT. If you can't afford a G3, and you're into the being green thing....it's a decent little car.

    I don't have any stick time in the Volt. You don't have to get on a waiting list to get one, but they're expensive, and I have questions about the long term reliability of their 1st gen drive train. There aren't any serious issues yet, or else this site would be plastered with "nanner-nanner-boo-boo" threads about it.

    The PHV will be about as expensive as a Volt---unless you get a base model, and they're not yet currently available.

    If you really wanna pull the trigger on a green car in CY2012, then I'd probably lean towards a G3, or G3+.....unless you want to wait for the PHV.

    if toyota dose not do any of the rediculious changes to the curent model ill go for the prius but if they do then ill go for the volt, my commute to work, college, and my grandmothers hoouse, and many stores i wouldnt have to use gas only the volts battery, and as for affording them i can afford both i just wanna meet my goal of a $10,000 down payment, i found out about these changes to the curent prius so i went down to my local dealer and he will not allow me to oder a 2011 he said i can order a 2012

    Welcome! If you haven't yet done so, I suggest that you do some research into the charging requirements of the Volt. From the Chevy website:

    Every Volt comes standard with a 120V portable charge cord that can plug into most common household outlets and will fully charge a Volt in about 10 hours, depending on outdoor temperature. You can also have a 240V charging station (additional cost plus installation) professionally installed in your home that will reduce the charging time to about 4 hours.

    Upon ordering a new Chevrolet Volt, discuss with your Volt Customer Advisor the benefits of installing a dedicated 240-volt home charging station. 240V Charging stations provide faster and more consistent charge times.

    For a busy young person who is working and going to school, I think a Prius or standard economy car would better fit their lifestyle.

    Well the previous owners of the house where I lived had Hopkins for RV's and so does my neighbors house he currently owned a Volt and uses his RV Hook ups to charge his volt in the 4th time and with work and school it's easy my work is down the street from my college and only about 10-12 hr a day I'm not home the rest of the time I am so in a way it's not to busy. But I'm wanting the Prius if Toyota does the smart thing and not change the front end or add the space shuttle noise. I seriously believe that while Toyota may think they are helping the bling "never seen a blind person walk the streets alone" is gonna cause problems for some people who are mentally challenged or people who need psyciachtirc help. I know I volunteered in the psych ward at my local hospital and a lot of the patients would worry and get upset for even things like a phone ring so just imagine what the space shuttle noise will do to them.

    My local dealer will not allow me to order a 2011 he said I can only order the 2012 and he will not confirm nor deny if the it's really a refresh happening or not. The only thing he told me is all options are staying the same, and the plus package will be available in more color options for the 2012 model.

    Is there a reason why you need to order a Prius instead of getting a car from existing inventory? To you live in or the vicinity of Los Angeles?

    I want a Prius with the solar roof, prefer white with one of the dark interiors but as of now color don't matter, and none of the dealers near me have any I found a used one from a repo lot only has 200 miles on it but they broke out all the windows and smashed up the solar roof. I consulted my insurance company and they won't fix it and I'm not paying to fix it out of pocket. And I live 3 hr from LA

    What would make you think that your insurance would pay to fix this damaged Prius you were considering purchasing?

    You could try and call Dianne, three hours might save you some money and get the car you want.

    Here's my opinion for what it's worth...

    I think the Volt is grossly overpriced, even after incentives and tax breaks. Toyota is releasing 3 new Prius models in 2012, I would think the economic effect that would have on the current Prius model (i.e. 3rd Gen 2012 Prius) is the price will drop because there are now other (and in some cases) better options available. I don't think the refresh is all that bad, and like the idea of the touch screen and back-up camera being standard on all trim levels without having to purchase Toyota's overpriced, crippled NAV option. Lastly, anything that generates noise has to have some form of speaker to project the sound. A $2.00 pair of wire cutters is probably all that will be needed to defeat this feature... And, there's still the chance a 2011 Blizzard Pearl Prius w/Solar could show up at a dealership near you! Have you asked one of the local dealers to do a search and possible trade with another dealer? Just my 2 cents...

    My father was a GM retiree, I worked at GM during a couple summers when in school, and most of my nearly 40 years and likely million miles (yikes!) of driving have been behind the wheel of GM vehicles. I don't trust the quality of GM cars and crossovers. My last GM, a leased 06 Cadillac SRX, was in the shop way too much. The CTS I had before that was only slightly better. Most of the GM trucks I owned were OK and if I were looking for a full-size pickup or SUV, I'd probably buy GM again. But GM cars, probably never again.

    I saw a really bad GM failure last week, also Cadillac SRX. The trans cooler broke inside the radiator. The engine coolant and transmission fluid mixed into this Pepto Bismol consistency -- thick and cavitated. The engine overheated and cracked the block, and the transmission needs to be stripped to case and cleaned. I think the cost of the repair was $7500. My father-in-law has had transfer case, transmission, transfer case again, and now fuel pump failures in his '03 GMC Sierra.

    Anyway, this has nothing to do with the original poster, who should take his $10K and buy a older, higher mileage Gen II outright now, then save up and trade up for some type of PHV in a few years after the technology matures.
