Thank you once again for taking the time to answer my questions...
I am going to place my order right now...

I just wanted to clarify my quesion on the wiring harness - When I mentioned three harnesses, I was referring to the Three Factory Harnesses on the car itself...

Does one of the three body harenesses go unused ?

This was the last question - I promise !!

    Thanks,
    Dan

yah one of the 3 body harness will be left unused.. also one thing to note is that some error will come on after you install the system but it will go away after 3 starts or so.. also just play around with the settings, the manual wasn't that great so if you have any questions ill be happy to answer them..

I appreciate all of your information --- but, my wallet is less than happy with you right now :) I'm ordering one right away.

Edit : Just thought of one question. I plan on upgrading the speakers at some point too. Would getting this HU as opposed to a nicer, name brand HU have any affect on that? I was planning on putting in a small amp to drive the speakers anyhow, so I imagine I can still get some good sound out of this thing.

Is anyone sure about JBL (US Market) support. I don't see anything in the website which suggests the factory JBL amp will be supported without an adapter.

You mentioned the steering wheel controls work. How about the phone buttons on the steering wheel? Can you answer and disconnect a call using the steering wheel phone buttons?

    Hello Unreal,

Thanks so much for all of your information, pictures, and responses. I have three questions for you, if you have the time:

    1. You mentioned that the aux/in works with the new head unit. Does that mean that you can connect your auxillary device to the built-in input in the center console/armrest area, as you could before the install?

    2. Does the bluetooth have voice dialing as a feature? For example, can you say "call home", and it will call? Or do you have to locate the number on the phonebook? (either on the phone, or one that you have entered into the unit)

    3. Regarding the installation of your backup camera:
    - Did you have to solder any connections? Or was it "plug and play"?
    - Did you have to run the video cable through the car, or was there a cable already in place?
    - How did you hold the camera in place in the back? Did you have to drill any holes on the rear hatch, or just pop out a piece? Come to think of it, if you could give me some instructions on how to install the camera, I would be truly grateful!

    Thanks so much,

    -Dylan

    Hi Unreal,

Thank you for the Clarification... :)

I also ordered both the Unit from OttoNavi, as well as the Camera from the same buyer as you...

I would also like to ask, as Dylan did, that any information or hints you could give about your camera install would be a great help...

Did the camera simply snap into the opening after you took out the dummy plug, or did you have to do any cutting ?

Thanks again for all your help...
    Dan

@UoD heres the preouts x5 (FL,FR,RL,RR,SUb) with built in digital amp at 45w x4 treble, bass, balance is adjustable.. hope this helps

to clear things up, the JBL harness came with the unit without the extra charge (picture added)..

@glennhl I don't have the phone buttons on the steering wheel so your best bet is to call or email ottonavi.. very helpful IMO..

about the voice command, I don't see that feature being offered with this HU but you can always verify with ottonavi.. but one thing I like is that your received, recent, and contacts are available on the HU..

about the rear camera.. no modifications needed just pop out the dummy and slide the camera in.. (picture added) fits like a glove.. @dan make sure to buy some extra wires, wire connectors, heatshrink and t-tap/wiretaps..i also bought some nylon pry tools from H.freight... connect your rca cable to the ccd and connect some extra wires to the reverse trigger (blue in color).. these will go all the way back and connect to the camera and reverse wire, I also added some extra wires to the camera itself (+-) which went thru the rubber boot..I ran mine on the drivers side easier IMO.. heres a link which might help.. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...21-new-camera-install-cheap-ebay-cameras.html
getting the RCA cable thru the rubber boot was a pain..

OK – I thought I was done with the questions, but I have one more…
I was looking at another post about removing the rear emblems to replace the neon blue logo with carbon fiber when I noticed something in one of the pictures…
Did you have to remove the rear plastic trim panel to pop out the dummy blank and install the camera ? And if the trim panel it outside of the metal hatch, and bolts on, how did you get the wire for the camera into the hatch?
It appears from the pictures I saw that the plastic panel that the camera will mount in, is not actually in the metal of the car, but into the plastic bolt on panel…
Did you have to drill a hole to get the camera wires to the hollow interior of the rear hatch, and up to the boot, or is there a opening into the metal near where the factory camera would have gone to run the wires ?
    Thanks,
    Dan

I removed everything inside the hatch, and also that rear trim(start prying on the side)..get yourself a pry tool if you don't have one yet, which helped a lot.. everything is held by clips...you don't have to drill any holes, just pop one of the license plate lights and squeeze it in there no leaks and run the wires up on the left section (rca, positive, neg wires) and thru the rubber boots.. the rca is a pain like I mentioned, some people splice it or grind that thing down.. the install was time consuming but all worth it at the end, so just take your time..good luck, let me know if you have any other questions..

    Great, thank you Unreal.
A follow up: Did you disconnect any batteries during the entire installation process of the HU or the camera?

I just wanted to clarify one last thing:
After your installation, are you still able to connect an auxiliary device (like an mp3 or cd player) via the built-in connection in the center console? (in the cubby below the 2nd cupholder, toward the back. Right by the 2nd power outlet.) Thanks in advance,

    -Dylan

No, I didn't bother to disconnect the battery.. no harm done..

Yes, that auxillary device still works.. I checked that right after install by connecting my iphone..

    Hi unreal,
My Nav unit came today… I wanted to ask a few questions…
    1) What are the two black USB socket cables for on the back of the unit ?
    2) I noticed that there was an external microphone in the box – Do you need this, or are the mics built into the front of the unit ?
    3) I have figured out that the one cable with a large white plug on one end, and the smaller white plug on the other must be for the JLB systems, so I will not need that cable…
    4) I also figured out the multi RCA cables are the one I will use to connect the Rear Camera…
    5) The other cable with one white large plug on one end, and the two smaller natural plastic plugs are going to connect to the factory harness…
    6) NOW…..there is a thick cable containing a black wire permanently mounted into the radio, a smaller black plug that goes into the radio, which according to the book is the steering wheel interface socket on the radio – then there is a white plug on the other end… does the white plug connect to one of the harnesses that is removed from the radio? If so, then there must be 4 harnesses in total to the factory radio – three would be used, and one will be unused ?
    7) On that same sterling wheel interface harness from the radio there are the following wires:
    Blue – reverse
    White – ant-cont
    Green – amp
    Yellow – batt-12v+-out
    Brown – tv cont
    Orange – ccd-12v+ out
    Black - ground
    Pink – brake
If I remember correctly, you said to ground the pink brake wire – I also assume the blue one marked reverse, will be hooked to the backup lamps, along with the power wire for the camera… do I need to do anything with the remaining wires, or are they for other options ?
My biggest concerns are with the black ground, and the ccd 12 out – I assume the amp, ant, and tv are trigger wires for those options…

Sorry for all the questions, but I want to do the install next weekend, and thought I would consult with the expert that has already done it for himself…
    Thanks in advance…
    Dan

    1. the 2 usb I routed to the glove box, it seems like you can connect an external hard drive for your movies and music..
    2. mic is for the bluetooth (pic added)
    3. correct only use the one with 2 ends the other for jbl
    4. the one mark with CCD (yellow) is where you will plug the reverse cam..
    5. correct
6.yah one will be left unused
    7. the remaining wires will be left for other options, the pink I grounded to one of the 3 screws right next to the shifter, and blue needs to be extented going to the back..

    Thanks Unreal....

Not a fan of the mic showing - I will have to see if there is a way to run it up to the space that the factory mic would be in which is located between the two map lamps...

So the harness with all the extra colored wires does plug into the factory harness ?

It looks like you had the blue connect blue tooth port option like I do in mine - Which bluetooth do you use - The one in the radio, or the blue connect ?

    Thanks again,
    Dan

Yah I remember someone running it up there on the Rosen install.. I will hide mine later on when I get the chance. but this will do for now..the only wires you connect are the 2 end harness and the one from the SW. dont remember the extra colored wires.. you got a pic? I use the blutetooth on the radio..

Heres a pic testing the 2 usb wires.. I borrowed my gf flash drive with a bunch of stuff in it including some mp3s.. the unit picked up the mp3 files quickly and can be accessible by pressing on the music button on the HU..This is a good way of playing music if you don't have an ipod etc.. I will probably add an external 1TB loaded with mp3 and videos in the future.. hope this helps..

Another question or two for those who may have some experience- can one stream music via bluetooth from a phone with this hu? I have the non-nav jbl system, bought the prius used and it blew me away that you couldn't stream music through bluetooth. My $50 stereo on my 12 year old previous car could... I have bluetooth in the car already, can the existing mic be used instead of the included one from the package? thanks for all your time and help, this forum has been a great find.
