    I think it's important to remember that Toyota is an international company and that the Prius vehicles sell around the world. It was mentioned previously - I can't remember where - that the "Prius Family" is only an American thing. So while I would have expected the c to have the standard Prius front and the sides not be so "curvy" I have to wonder if this vehicle will even be called "Prius" in other countries.

    So it looks like we have a host of new colours on the Prius c. The only two I can cross-reference is 8T7 - Blue Streak Metallic and 5A3 which comes in different names in the US - Sunburst, Sun Fusion and High Voltage (Matrix, FJ Cruiser and tC)

    The white is "Lime White Pearl Crystal Shine". The red is "Citrus Orange Mica Metallic". The blue doesn't share the colour code with Clearsky or Clearwater.

    Yes, the conventional shifter and the handbrake are big failures. They make the interior look like an obsolete ICE-only car. That bulky shifter is just plain pointless, handbrake too and those two gadgets waste lots of precious space. :mad: :smash:

    Peak battery power at the motor seems to be 26hp versus 36hp in the Gen III prius hatchback. Are there any battery details that leaked out?

    The car appears to have slightly worse power to weight, but is shorter and lighter, so handling may be improved. I like the more tradtional gear shift (I've hit park button before and just put it in neutral) and hand parking brake. Same mfd which looks a little aged, but this may be to give it a family resemblance.

    Any hints of differences for the american market?

    I don't mind this all that much. I wonder if there is a conventional ignition.

    I think the cup holders in front of the shifter is not great.

    Not IMO. I'd rather have a conventional looking shifter. Why not? In current Prius Toyota has created a massive bridge simply to elevate the impotent looking "dongle" they call a shifter. I'd rather a standard looking shifter.

    In Gen2 Prius, when the shifter was on the dash, I thought it was okay. But if you are going to position it like a shifter? Might as well make it look like a shifter. I hope Toyota keeps this.

    I can't read Japanese and I don't see where it said the battery power. I want to know if it is using NiMH or Lithium HV battery pack. The low weight is so amazing.

    It said MG2 is 45kW (61hp) and the gas engine is 54kW (74hp) with the combined 73kW (100hp). To compare, GenII Prius' MG2 is 67hp and ICE is 76hp with the combined 110hp.

    Power to weight ratio (23.8 lbs/hp) is worse than GenIII (22.7 lbs/hp) but better than GenII (26.3 lbs/hp).

    No idea the differences for the American market.

    I think I just have to wait until I actually see one in the "tin" on our side of the pond.

    Just when I get my mind and expectations set on what the Prius C is likely to be? Everything changes.

    This is more the product I originally expected, but with the recent release of the Creepy Multi-Man commercial, then did not expect.

    There is a big difference between this---more simply a smaller Prius. Honda Fitish, Yaris like product and the concept in the commercial.

    I wouldn't be unhappy with this product. Upwards of 60 mpg? And layout and body wise it is very familiar in comparison to my Honda Fit. I think I could really like it.

    But I'm just waiting. Would of liked to see the rear area, and some shots of the hatch. I don't need a lot of utility but I need some.

    The AQUA is designed to compete with the FIT Hybrid and the Mazda2 SkyActive.
    With 40% better fuel ecconomy (JC08) it has good chances to be a hit in Japan (and probably Europe).
    The Prius C for the US may not be the same car as the Aqua.

    If...the price of oil/gasoline skyrockets in the next several years as I think it will with the US leaving Iraq and Iran stirring up trouble...then these will be sold out forever.

    Under $20K and 60-ish mpg all day long...and it being a Prius? Good timing BTW to TM in having an entire lineup ready by next spring In my mind the only question will be how quickly they can convert other lines to Prius production.

    Good comparo. Since the testing parameters vary dramatically the respective values are not subject to direct conversion. IMO the best way to guesstimate the US values is a simple ratio.

    Prius (J)...... 35.6 ..... Prius (US)... 50
    Prius aqua... 40.0 ..... Prius c........ ~56+

    I'd feel confident that TMS would move heaven and earth to get an EPA value of 60 MPG for at least one value (C/H C )

    IDK. The gen III prius battery power is 27KW which is the difference between combined power and the engine power, I used the same type calculation 19KW, but their may be other gating items in the hsd. I would not rule out a smaller battery and/or a lithium battery in the prius c.


    Yep it should be between the gen II and gen III when it comes to power to weight. Less weight, length, and height should allow for better handling if Toyota tunes it for that. It would be nice if toyota offered 16" or 17' wheels as an american option.

    Because in a car powered by HSD the shifter doesn't shift anything at all. It's just an operation mode switch for the control electronics. A set of buttons - like in the Tesla Roadster - or the Nissan Leaf style "shifter" would much more suitable for that task.
    But a huge bulky stick is not only pointless and wastes space but ruins the space-age feel of the interior as well. Moreover I don't need rein and whip in the cockpit either. :p

    Didn't like the bridge either, the dongle on the dash was a better solution.

    More on the shifter issue. Why not put the shifter and handbrake next to each other and save space? The iQ has this setup and allows a foot area where the handbrake usually is located.

    Still. I can't help but think how redundant a Yaris Hybrid will become. Please give us this instead of Yaris Hybrid - pretty please!

    this is basically a car similar to Verso-s... while Yaris is Yaris.
    There is an market for both.

    this seems to be based on Verso-s / Ractis, which is small MPV in Europe/Japan, but with lower roofline. Rear end is definetly looking like regular Verso.
