The II is helpful and more affordable for people like me, of modest means.

Modest means aside, the difference in cost between these two is very close to $1000.

If money is tight, then the better value for the money you have is even more important.

    The III has these extras:
Display Audio with Navigation and Entune™ — includes 6.1-in. touch-screen with integrated backup camera display, AM/FM CD player with MP3/WMA playback capability, six speakers, SiriusXM Satellite Radio capability (includes three-month trial subscription to XM Select Package), HD Radio™ with iTunes® Tagging, auxiliary audio jack, USB port with iPod® connectivity and control, vehicle information with customizable settings, hands-free phone capability, phone book access, advanced voice recognition, text-to-speech with programmed and customizable text responses, and music streaming via Bluetooth® wireless technology

Tilt/telescopic steering wheel with audio, climate, Bluetooth® hands-free phone and voice-command controls
(ie. the bluetooth controls in the steering wheel and working thru the NAV/audio)

I think many folks have NAV on their phones and NAV in their Garmins and that's OK but the point of being hands-free is just that. Be hands free. Talk to the car... because the Garmin doesn't respond to voice commands or use BING to search destinations or locations... and this car can use the verbal commands like a lil' robot.

If you are not that tech savvy, and don't use NAV at all, then the II would work for you, yes.

Looking at the availability chart change, it is amazing how much intra-dealer trading must be going on here!

For my part, I'll give a free plug for Dianne here. I was interested in a different color and voila (yes, I selected 'V'oila intentionally)! A few hours later one was aVailable and reserved. Fantastic.... A big thank you!

It's only value if it's a feature you want. I am very tech savvy and yet I don't want/need these extra features. They are at least not worth $1000 to me, which is still a lot of money for some (and I could afford it if I wanted it).

I don't like being told by a dealer what I should and shouldn't want - I prefer to make the decision for myself.

I hope you don't think I am telling you what to get or want - I was rationalizing why in CA we don't get many II's... it's value folks see in the small jump in package for the money.

Funny too - those who are tech savvy usually DO want these more techie packages... folks non-savvy sort of fear them!

Funny thing is, those of us who write software for a living *should* fear things like DRCC but we don't, we just know that you still have to pay attention to what you and the car are doing relative to traffic rather than relying on the software to do the right thing 100% of the time..

Dianne - any idea how much it would cost to get one of your cars shipped to DC?

Dianne -- in post #27 do you mean the first car listed to be a Prius v "TWO" (base level car)?

Dianne, you rock! Thanks for working those long hours and keeping us informed.

    Mike

Note: it took me a few days to reply to this thread due to my laptop being in the repair shop for malware and virus problems. I am using my Wife’s PC today. When I loaded priuschat.com on her PC a couple of anti-malware alarms went off. Her laptop has anti-virus software, mine did not. So caution to Priuschat.com users, make sure you have anti-virus software on your computer.

Dianne, do you have max load capacity figures for the v? The 825lbs in my Gen III is crimping my style. I am still waiting for the local dealers to get anything for me to look at.

    It's Saturday night.
I'm leaving work for the night... and am off Sunday although my assistant Nathan is in my office on Sunday.

When I get in at 8am Monday... I expect to see some WAGONS in my delivery area. :whip: Come on Toyota!!! Bring me my wagons! Yeeeeeehaw!!!
