Just traded my truck to lease a 2012 Volt...

    I figured they all would have had that. I am still unsure how to translate that as to whether I am doing good or not on kwh/mi or however you would phrase it. It has one or 2 more in depth screens for energy consumption. On the myvolt.com website it keeps talking about some update coming where you can track your 7 day, 30 day, and yearly energy consumption in both mpg & kwh. This one is a 2012 though, and maybe they are working on rolling this version of the software back onto the 2011's. Not to well versed in everything yet though as I am still thumbing through the owners manual and learning as I go so to speak. The Prius book I had read through in the first couple days, but the Volt is set up quite differently from anything else I have ever driven. Thanks for all the wishes of luck though everyone. Fingers crossed that I shall not need it. With over 10,000 miles logged on our Prius since February I feel fully confident that the technology is here to be reliable.

    Better, but it really should have an instantaneous power reading showing draw and regen rates. The spinning ball is way too abstracted from what's really going on.

    Any Volt owner able to connect a OBDII device and pull those information?

    Those guys over at MyNissanLeaf.com have already done it by decoding the CAN bus messages.

    They don't come up on my Actron 9180 (relatively decent consumer model) scanner. I have seen outputs of MG2 rpm, current draws, etc., but I don't know what tool was used.

    Another alternative is to use streaming Bluetooth audio from your phone to the Volt's audio system. I do this on my 2011 Volt and it works great.

    On the negative side, you can't control the playback from the car's center console screen. On the positive side, you can use the full-featured regular iPhone interface on your phone that you are used to using. This also allows you to stream Pandora radio from the Internet.

    Thanks for the idea Jeff.. It looks like I may have to start using my HTC Sensation for music then. Seems easy enough to hook up the blue tooth. I don't mind hooking stuff up in the center console.. the skipping on the tracks just gets irritating.. I did find out though if I press the home key, and switch to something else (AM/FM/SAT), then back to USB the tracks play flawlessly. Sometimes though I must do this for every track. Really wonder what is happening sometimes between the ipod & car. I will try this way though. Seems easier.

    Some folks are just beginning to use the DashDaq which has a Volt-specific update which can read and display under a user-configurable graphic interface many of the proprietary data points in the Volt via a license from GM.

    Sounds like a good deal. Also, the lease option lets you see how far the technology has moved ahead in 3 years. Would you want to try selling this car if the newer model gets 200 miles than ICE? Who would want the 50 miles model.

    That is one of the main reasons I leased is I did not want to wind up having to worry about selling it if it turns out to be a dud.. 1200 miles later, and 1176 of those EV miles I must say it gets better everyday. Once we move into our new house I will be installing a 240V SPX charger, and I think things will be WAY better in terms of charging time turn arounds compared to the 110V. I am also kind of hoping that in 3 years the battery technology improves and the car will go at least 80-100 miles on a charge... If not, and don't see anything on the horizon may just buy it out.

    Check with your local power provider, you may be able to get a special, cheaper rate if you have the charger comes on at off peak hours to charge the car. There may even be rebates, or, being in Florida, figure out what amp you will need with a 220 charge, they now make solar panels with built in 220 inverters, figure how many panels you need to charge and charge during the day for free... well you will have to spend your money once to the Solar company. Florida may have a tax incentive program to help cover the cost of the Solar...check into it.
    I saw a Volt on the 210 Freeway here in LA yesterday, the driver was driving rather conservatively, even I passed her up. I tried to take a photo, she fell way behind in traffic..oh well.
