2010 Prius Rear-hubs replaced..why?

    Good I'm glad your getting a little better settlement. I guess the squeaky wheel really does get the grease. ;)

    Unfortunately paying for vehicle repairs is a responsibility of vehicle ownership. If the part was truly defective the issue would've likely occurred early on in the ownership. While it is unfortunate that your hubs failed at 45k, the fact that both of them failed at the same time, makes me wonder if the service life you received is in-line with the design and the operating conditions in your area.

    This is why extended warranties, or insurance policies, exist-- to cover issues such as this one.

    You are absolutely correct, paying for vehicle repairs is part of ownership. This is something we have always done. In fact, many would say we baby our cars--we change the oil and check everything as suggested by the manufacturer. (Our 4-Runner is close to 13yrs and is in great condition--we use it in 4-wheel situations, to pull a boat, etc...not just to drive to the mall as most do.) But when something goes wrong while the car is still under warranty it should be repaired at no cost to the owner; particularly something as unusual as this. We are not whiners. We recognize that there is a problem with our Prius that is not our fault. If this were not a Toyota part defect than 100s of Prius that are in this area would have the same problem.

    It is good to hear that Toyota is standing up. Had you reported the problem at 45K initially, I'd agree with Critic, but since you reported it at 35K and they did nothing at that time, you should not have had to fight so hard IMHO. We seldom hear anything good about Toyota dealers in Virginia.

    we have replaced the Drivers side rear wheel hub @ 50k (last month), the dealer covered the cost under the warrenty, they said it was rusted inside, but because the part was covered they did not give me the part back.

    Toyota does not warranty the rear hubs beyond 36k so what your saying doesn't add up. They do cover the front hubs under the powertrain warranty. So the rear hubs only have 3 year 36k warranty.

    Took from prius owners manual
    "
    Final drive housing and all internal parts,
    axle shafts, drive shafts, constant velocity
    joints, front hub and bearings, seals and
    gaskets."
