I searched all over on here and hope this isn't a repeat question:

Since I purchased my 2010 Prius about a week ago the center console top never slid completely forward. It slides to about where the cup holder insert is and stops. I've taken the cup holder out and it still stops in the same spot.

See the attached picture- this is as far as it will shut.

    Any ideas?

Check for something blocking the track other than the cup holder.

I have- the tracks all seem clear. Out of frustration and loss- I even tried slamming it to see if it's break something free- no luck. It's as if this is as far it's suppose to close!

Obviously a problem but that is why you have a 3y/36k warranty. Bring it in. Of course their highly trained techs will simply slam it as hard as they can to "fix it". :)

    Bummer.

Could there be something in the lid part that is keeping it from sliding all the way forward? I think there is a slot to put papers isn't there?

After having it looked at by the tech at Toyota: It's broken- $600 to replace!

How is it broken? Its plastic and can be fixed. Since it is already not working, just take it out and take it apart and try and figure out what is broken and fix it. Dont give up so easy. $600? I would leave it the way it is before spending that to replace.

Thats with new parts from Toyota. It should be easy to get used parts from an auto wrecker.

Make sure something's not blocking it from the underside of the back end. Beyond that, I got nothing.

My bad... I was thinking about our Camry. It had a slot to papers in under the lid.

Like mentioned above, it is probably an easy fix. Take off the lid and look around. We can always post pictures of a working lid.

I agree and I won't be buying one for $600! Not a lot of stuff in the slider... no idea how it comes apart. I'll have to play with it. IF I figure it out I will post details.

I like that- I have nothing to go on so I can't tell what's broken. Can anyone snap me a few pix of what the under part of the lid area looks like? If anyone can show me a few pages of the underside in different stages of closing it'd be great- video? Super! PM me if you want my email. Thank you so much!

    BTW- I love this forum!

Took a couple of shots. These two should be of interest. The first is closed in the up position, the second is open in the up position (you have to open it in the almost lowered position. Take a peak at yours and see if anything is obstructing the slide.

Thank you! The second picture was especially helpful. It looks like I'm missing that light grey plastic bar just behind the felt.

MY car was a previous rental so who knows what happened to it.

My attached pictures are as far as I can open it. Since it might be missing that piece, I might need the whole inner guts under the armrest itself- the one that doesn't have a number and is behind 15, 16 and 18 in the parts diagram. My thought is to bring the link you posted to a toyota parts place and see if they have any idea how to get that piece. My guess is if it's not in the manual they won't know.

    Do you have any advice?

Nurse, we need an ultrasound stat. :)

Hard to tell anything from the pics. Need to pull the hood off and try to disassemble. I got a feeling a piece has broken off and is preventing it from sliding all the way forward. After church today I will see if I can disassemble.
