    2011 11 02. Neat.

11/11/11 is coming up soon, too. That's the one day most of us can agree on a date format. :)

That's only true if you are storing data and require a sort order on the day column... and are reading this in the US at least. It's 2/11/2011 elsewhere in the world. My computer says it is 11/2/2011, so not palindromic. My database tells me it is 11/02/2011, so there you go.

So does this mean that these dates don't count in re: 10,000 year frequency?

    October 2, 2001 (10/02/2001 or 2001.10.02)
    January 2, 2010 (01/02/2010 or 2010.01.02)
    November 2, 2011 (11/02/2011 or 2011.11.02)
    February 2, 2020 (02/02/2020 or 2020.02.02)
    December 2, 2021 (12/02/2021 or 2021.12.02)
    March 2, 2030 (03/02/2030 or 2030.03.02)

No it isn't. Formatting aside, in some places, it's already the third. ;)

Big deal. A clever person can find something "interesting" about pretty much any number or series of numbers. In this case, both the calendar and the order of placements of its elements are arbitrary. Palindromes are slightly amusing. Nothing more, IMHO.

My computer says 2/11/2011, no palindrome for me...

Doesn't even take cleverness. Back when the "Mars Face" was a fad and books were being written about it being proof of ancient civilizations by virtue of spacial relationships between it and assorted random landmarks in the vicinity, a disgusted astrophysicist/astronomer wrote an article "proving" by virtue of the relationships between selected dimensions of his bicycle and the "key" distances recorded in one of those nutcase books that his bicycle had to have been invented by Martians.

The same ignorant awe of random numerical relationships is also what led that idiot 90 year old cult leader to predict the end of the world, first in May, then in October. His "reasoning/calculation" essay on his website is a vast calamity of non-sequiturs and unfounded assumptions, a train wreck of numerical thrall.

A glance at the clock shows the time at this moment is 15:41:23 Pacific Daylight Time, November 2nd, 2011 CE. It is a singular moment in history, occurring once and only once, never to be repeated, for eternity. Consider the incalculable improbability of having lived during just that moment, when billions before you and billions after you missed that experience. Gives you a shudder. :p

With you except for the bold. There are theories out there about the relationship of time and space in regards to dimensions and parallel space/times or even reverse space/times. :D

    Reminds me of this one:

Shuffle a deck of cards and deal out four bridge hands. The probability of exactly those four hands being dealt is so mind-bogglingly unlikely, that it proves there must be a god, and that you are his one and only special pinnacle of creation, for him to have ordained that you, and only you, would deal that one particular, almost infinitely-unlikely set of hands.

Having moved here from Most Of The Rest Of The World I had to adjust. Fortunately my DOB is one of 12 days that made adjusting easier. :D

Reverse space-time is nothing special. That's part of quantum mechanics.

Yes which would mean this one event would happen at least two times equally spaced from their respective starts.

If the expansion and contraction of the universe is an endless cycle, with time's arrow reversing with each change, then the junctures could be infinite. ;)

Apparently, the expansion of the universe is accelerating, not slowing down. Likely, there will be no contraction, just a never-ending expansion.

Well, as far as we know. Too bad I won't be around long enough to find out for sure.

It's a cute little observation. Enjoy it for a moment, then move on. No need to rain on the parade.

But it's a wildly inaccurate observation, that was the point of the ribbing. There are at least 6 palindromic dates within 20 years this century, and 3 have already passed.

Also, depending on how you slice it, 11/11/11 is coming up.
