I'm guessing that the cars cycledrum is seeing is from cars that left Japan before the flooding or before it disrupted parts flow to Japan. I can't speak to the part supply situation for building Priuses right now as I haven't been following.

There's also going to be lag from when a car is produced, to when it ends up on a ship, to the journey itself, being unloaded at port, shipped to dealer, etc. I don't know how long it is and Toyota's logistics but the guys at http://www.mynissanleaf.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2091 track ships w/Leafs. (I've been driven by Oppama wharf while taking a Nissan Oppama plant tour before. Nissans built in other parts of Japan are sent there there to be loaded onto ships.)

I'd imagine that Toyota dealers want to clear out their '11s to make way for '12s.

    Prius down?

    Not in Japan.

29,632 were sold in October there.

That keeps Prius a top-seller in that market.

Yep, #1 and Fit is #2. IIRC, all of Japan's top selling cars are Japanese models.

I think he means at this time there is no shortage in the US. I'm looking at getting into one for over $2k under MSRP. Gas is cheap in Meruca again! We don't need no stickin' hybrids!

If you do get a Prius, I bet you will like it. Sounds like it is a good time to deal.

Seems like prices are coming down pretty well.. We got our Prius II back in Febuary for 19k before everything hit the fan in the Middle East. Has been an excellent car, and we just turned over 12,500 miles yesterday with absolutely no problems. There are times I wish we got a IV or V model, but in the end I do not feel the GPS would be up to par. About the only options I wish I had is the radar cruise, and LKS out of the advanced tech package.

When we arrived in Beaufort, SC the other day to stay with the inlaws for the holidays I saw about 10 Gen III's on the lot as we rode by, but no prices on the windows. All of them were either white or silver that I could see. So anyone looking for one in the Low Country could probably have luck getting one there.

On this note, I happened to stumble across these articles:

October Advanced-Drive Sales Still Slow - AutoObserver
Sigh... here we go again with "40 mpg" (highway) cars...
