[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00543RC0Y"]Harry Potter - The Complete 8-Film Collection Blu-ray 2011 Region Free: Amazon.co.uk: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, David Yates: Film & TV[/ame]

Yeah, I'm pretty excited. I just ordered Harry Potter on Blu Ray from Amazon.co.uk!!! It was half the price of the US version (30 lbs = $48) and included 2 extra discs. In case anyone is wondering, it's also Region Free and has no 50i encoding, so it'll work on all US blu ray players! What a deal. Yeah I'm a dork, SHUT UP. :p

I've seen bits and pieces of some of the movies when surfing channels at a hotel (before turning the TV off in disgust and getting out my Kindle). Not interested enough to put them on my NetFlix queue.

But I've been told by several people that the books are actually pretty good. Unfortunately, they are not available on the Kindle. The only reason I can imagine for this is that Rowling is a neo-Luddite who believes that books must be printed on dead trees.

Too bad. My bad eyes and my arthritis make it harder than it used to be to read books on dead trees.

#1 fan. i just picked up movie 8 last night. but now, i'm rethinking it. i was going to wait and buy the set in 2012 along with a bluray player. word has it that they will be adding more features. but i paid $15. for one non hd movie and they had the whole set of blurays for $50. i may pick that up and repurchase down the road if a new set comes out. let us know how you like the uk set, enjoy!

Bisco, you are a #1 fan. Multiple copies of the same movie...nice.

I kind of got lucky that I never purchased a HP DVD. I always said I'd wait until all 7 (8) movies came out and I'd buy the box set. Also, I think there's something hardcore about buying the discs from the UK. No one's gonna argue that you aren't a fan if you order from the UK.

BTW, like you, I don't even have a Blu Ray player yet, so I've gotta buy one now. Lol. Harry is making me po'.

oh ya, my kids got me hooked on harry 10 years ago. we would all read a chapter and then discuss it over dinner. i have been tempted to get the uk book set. the vernacular is supposed to be a bit different. let me know if you think the movies are the same as in the theatre or different in any way.

My kids got me into it, too. I've read all the books and seen all the movies. The themes are surprisingly dark and violent for what are supposedly children's stories, but there are fun bits, too. We haven't gotten too carried away with it - no Harry Potter lego or video games - but it's undeniably a part of culture now.

The differences are minor (American/British) such as when they say; Sweater/jumper, Mom/mum, Won't/Shan't, Pants/trousers. The biggest difference of all is in the 1st movie- the original is called "the Philosopher's Stone" but the American version is "the Sorcerer's stone." I personally like the idea of having the original titles/dialogue.

Definitely. The books and movies is quintessential Harry Potter and all you need.

Odd that they'd have to do that. Over here an American book will have American English and we understand you say Mom instead of Mum. Surely if we can work out the differences then surely your average American reader can too - it adds to the enjoyment of the book.

(eg fanny is something much different over here by the way. Much amusement when watching an American tv show where they refer to their large fanny. Almost as much fun as 'Are you being served' :D)

I have read all the books, seen all the movies, and have them on DVD.

I was arguing on the internet that Harry was a horcrux as soon as the book came out which named them 'horcrux'. (2005)

At least I never dressed up as hogwarts students, as my daughter and her friends did. (yes, they are Slytherin)

^I've heard its AWESOME. My brother went there and said Hogsmeade is exactly like the movie. The shops, and merchandise is also exactly the same. Bring your wallet. LOL. To add to the magic, my brother also says it snows every night. He looked up in the sky and couldn't figure out how they did it.

Nice reasoning Jimbo! My daughter will be suitably impressed by your insight -- and your geekiness ;)

She and I are the two HP fans that remain in my family. Everybody read the books, and we have seen most of the movies. Fond memories, my daughter and I would buy 2 copies of the book at midnight, and as the quickest readers in the home get first dibs. My wife and son would have the book by sometime the next day, and then take their time. It would take my wife weeks to finish the book, since English is not her native tongue.
