That cannot be accurate. Perhaps they are talking about for each of the modularized sections.

If that is accurate, then people should just start buying "replacement Volt packs" for DIY lithium projects. 16KWh.

And of course when it fails and needs replacing it is a "hybrid battery" as the site lists it as...

That's what I was thinking but click on the "view illustrations" button.

This is only the battery casing/assembly, it does not include the battery itself.

May be on to something here.

Most other parts have a big number associated with them on the illustration page. None for the actual battery. It seems odd that it would be included in the general image bounds and not starred to indicate it wasn't included. Being the main component it seems logical it would have a number.

A lot of times assemblies will be issued generic part numbers that are not real, and the actual break down with the part numbers needed to order will be in a seperate diagram (hate that aspect of working on aircraft).... I am not sure how many "major" assemblies the battery pack is made of, but each of the assemblies is some 288 cells. I don't think the actually battery pack would be up for ordering at the moment so that they insure they will get any and all defective ones back for analyzation. Be darn right if that car goes belly up I won't be trying to fix it myself, and it will be going back to the dealer.....

Toyota does the exact same thing, no number for the actual cell pack:

Genuine Toyota and OEM Scion Parts Catalog

Edit: link won't go to specific page. I looked up the battery pack for my 2010 and found it under Hybrid components and looked at the "view illustration" page.

The number for the cell pack is 1 in the illustration.

If you're referring to the Prius schematic, the no, as #1 is for a radiator. The Prius battery pack, assembly, whatever you want to call it, is #5 and it's $2729.35 MSRP.

If you're referring to the the OP, then yes the volt cell pack is #1 in the illustration which is listed for $2994.64

I am referring to the Prius battery pack, not the Volt.
The Prius 1.1KWH pack oem fpr $2.7K, do you think the Volt 16KWh pack will sell for $3K!
The Prius pack is an exchange with a core price of $1350.

That's why I put a "?" mark in the thread title. 2k1toaster and I originally thought maybe that figure was for individual cell packs inside the case but the illustration says otherwise.

The battery itself does not have a number from what I can see in the Volt battery illustration. That means the battery is not included. Makes sense, we know there is no way that battery would sell for $3000.

That's how I take it too. There's no item sequence number pointing to the actual batteries.

I would imagine there is no way to get the actual physical battery outside of GM.. The major difference between the Prius and Volt batteries is that Toyota does not condone refurbishing the Prius batteries.. GM wholly intends to do that with the Volt units, so to me that means they will not be publicly releasing part numbers/parts to anyone other than dealers to ensure they get the old units back for studying/refurbishing. The only reason Toyota takes the Prius batteries back is to ensure they are recycled to my understanding? Either way we do not have to worry about private entities messing with the batteries anytime in the near future anyway as everyone will be going back to their dealer for warranty work... I would hate to see that repair bill for the $14k battery pack, $14k deposit for new pack, and shipping for both. Luckily the labor will be easy since it just is installed from underneath the car.

If you look at #11 at the bottom of the Volt page, you'll see the #1 at the top of the harness. That means everything in the box that #1 points to is included with the battery. There's probably a core amount, but it's not showing. If you checkout, the estimated shipping is $5.00. I don't think so. :p

No, number 1 points to a box around everything and everything in there has a number pointing to it except the battery so the battery is not included.

The battery doesn't have a number pointing to it because it is #1. You'll notice #'s 2 thru 5 don't have a corresponding description. That is because you can only get them with the battery. #'s 6 thru 10 can be had seperately, but they also come with #1.

From that illustration I get the battery is not included. It makes sense it is not included.

The battery only comes in the case because they don't want anyone messing with it. That's because of the battery's liquid cooling system.
