You're saying if you were to order that item for $3k the battery is not included, correct?

Mark, you're not familiar with bounding boxes and what they signify on a parts fiche.

Here's another example from on my former motorcycles:

Ronayers.com Microfiche Honda>Motorcycle>2005>VFR800A>FRONT BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER ABS

Say you want to buy the minor spring and valve parts in this brake master cylinder located next to item #18 (circlip) that don't have any part numbers. You have to buy the bounding boxed item #12 but if is unavailable or back ordered, then you have to get the larger bounded box item #6.

    hope this helps

If you order #1, you'll get everything in the box, including the battery. You cannot order items 2 thru 5 seperately, they only come with the battery, #1.

Then those who want to make some money should order it cause' that's a steal... I still don't read the diagram that way and it just makes sense for that price the battery is not included.

The joker in the pack is that we don't know how much the core is.

I did some checking and found that the only way the dealer can get the battery is if a Volt trained tech orders it, thru Technical Assistance, after going thru a thorough diagnostics procedure. Also, the battery comes in the case.

P/N 20979876 Battery, Drive Motor Replacement $2994.64. You can verify with your local GM dealer. But again, you can't order it, it's a restricted part.

So you're saying the battery if ordered by the right person costs $3000? The battery which is supposed to cost $10,000.

If it is only $3000 I will be keeping my Volt at the end of the lease that is for sure!! I was under the impression it was $14,000... Somehow that does not seem right though, so I shall not get my hopes up.

I have seen it last week. I thought it doesn't include the battery cells.

For all that it matters, it could be $5.00, but you can't buy it. A dealer just can't buy one, it's restricted for sale by GM TAC. I would say that it has been given a value so when charged for warranty on a repair order, the dealer can get paid.

It's there for accounting purposes, and may reflect the case price.

There's no core on the battery.

Just to be clear for anyone who may not understand, on the Volt leases is a contractual right to buy the car for the residual value at the end.

That right was not contained in the leases for the EV1's back in the 90's and GM did not let anyone buy them (and scrapped them when they got them all back).

GM does not have an option this time to not let us buy.

Well Daniel if there is one thing I have learned from that one movie.. It is to not take it back to the dealer if they demand it. :D Granted there are more EV's out there than the EV1 this time though, so I guess it wouldn't be to big of a deal if they ripped it from my possession and crushed it in the desert.. Heck in the end all of us Volt adopters may want them to do that, lol.

Gwmort tells us they cannot do that this time. But note that some people refused to give back their EV1s, and GM used the full force of the law to take them back by force.

Then there's the question of what happens to the contract when GM goes bankrupt again. Will "New-New GM" claim that it owns the cars and is not bound by the contract signed with "New GM"?
