I understand the nav system in toyota's is an archaic CD type and that the only way to get a new disc is through the thieves at the Toyota Dealers. They evidently charge an ungodly fee of $218-$275 for the CD. I purchased a lifetime update for my Garmin for $89, I am beginning to think that although we love our v, that dealing with Toyota dealers is going to suck. Looks like in the next year or two we'll just go back to the Garmin. Has anyone found a place that you buy the CD for a reasonable price?
FYI -> Neither of the new systems in the 12's use a DVD for navigation. You'll still end up paying the dealer for map updates though I'm sure.
Oh yeah, I'm sure they will get their money one way or the other. Nice to Know they aren't using the CD any longer, I wonder if you can update through the USB port. I will look into it further.
From my understanding the system updates automatically when you log in with your phones internet connection... I could be wrong though, as I have not tested it.
I'm looking at my Official Toyota Prius v brochure and it says the ATP includes "Premium HDD Navigation with ENTUNE and JBL".
I was told by a Prius tech that you will have to go to the dealer to update. So that leaves it open to being scalped by the dealers. We live in a rural area and seldom use a cell phone, ours is basic phone from Trac Phone, so no blu tooth to connect to our system. It's just not cost effective for us to own an I-phone or others, we were with Qwest and would use 10 minutes a month or less, a lot of money for 10 minutes or less.
Right, it's an optional extra. The Five gets the Display Audio, right? Gosh with more Prius vehicles, it's getting harder to keep track of packages and features for two countries!
On the HDD system it's only the ENTUNE specific software that'll update over the air. For other software updates (bugs, etc.) or map updates it's a trip to the dealer.
Got a reply from Toyota regarding my question.. here is the response regarding Entune, Nav and Prius 2012 release dates... So it seems after January 1st, pricing and availability will be released.... So much for a December release date.
So, how does the 2012 Prius V update? By internet from cellphone, DVD, USB port or what? I would bet the dealer will pop a dvd into the dvd player for some $$ and update but I can find no absolute source to confirm this.
The navigation updates will be by USB drive that plugs into the USB port on the dash which will be simple enough. Each update will probably cost more that purchasing a brand new Garmin GPS - and Garmin gives me much more GPS functionality than the Toyota GPS does. However, I didn't have a choice if I wanted anything other than the lower trim level vehicle.
Crap. So there is no dvd to duplicate and use to update the 2010 Prius nav? So much for sharing an update. PG86100 ?
I found this place is cheap: Toyota Parts: Toyota TRD Parts, Replacement Parts and accessories from Carson Toyota
My dealer did an update for me using a memory stick in the USB port under the dash. It takes about 13 minutes. They didn't charge me for that one, but said future ones would be about $50. A new version number can be viewed after updating.
