    Hello all,

I am new here, and I would like to get some information as I am in the process of trying to buy my first car. The ONLY car that I have seen that actually gets me excited is the Prius, so I'm pretty dead set on getting one. My only requirements are: NAVIGATION, and a dark color (in other words the black, blue or gray).

What I want to know is what other people bought their Prius(es) for. Please tell me your trim and significant options, and if you know the MSRP and Invoice price that you were dealing with at the time of purchase, then please include that as well!

Right now I am looking at a NEW 2011 Prius III with Nav. This generally has an MSRP of $27,500+ and an invoice price of $25,000+. I already have offers from dealers to get this for $25,800, but I don't want to settle for a price now if I can get it lower by waiting until the end of December or having more info.

Extra Info: My big bro INSISTS very strongly that I buy a trim 4 because of the increased value, but I do not want to have my price go up 2000 or more while not giving me anything more (that I care about).

Thanks in advance for your input!

EDIT: Just so it's clear, because of the RIDICULOUSLY high price of used Prius(es), I am only interested in getting a new 2011.

I hate to disagree with your big brother, but if you look at the leasing offers available, the lease rate for the upper trims is a much higher percentage, that the percentage increase in price. In other words the lower trims hold their value better. Since you want Navigation, the 3 is your best choice.
The last shipments of the 2011's are on the water now, so your selection will start narrowing very soon. It's a delicate balance between waiting for the best deal at the end of the model year versus having a limited choice at the end of the model year.
The 12's are due out at the end of the year or very early in the new year. I would be looking seriously in the next two weeks and take the best offer I can get on the car I want. Good Luck.

Toyota Sunnyvale's Good, Better,Best ads are a good indicator of good price. Most recent best was Three with Nav priced at $24,688, but the caveat is only 9 units at that price.

Like poster above said, shipments of 2011's won't be coming much longer, not sure exactly, but it's winding down. There will be fewer choices as the '11s run out so you better get on it.

Thanks Gurple. Yes I am scared of the limited selections at the end of the year! Because I know what I want and I won't be satisfied with anything else, I can't get stuck with no selection! As for the 4, I do not think it's worth the extra 2-3 thousand. I'm very satisfied with what the three offers.

    Wow,

Thanks Cycledrum, If I could get it for less than 25,000 I would buy it tomorrow! I sent a mesage to the dealers today saying I'm holding out for prices closer to $25,000 (They are all offering me the 25,800-26,000 range). So we will see what they say. Like I said I'm new to all this, so I don't know what to expect.

If anybody could jumpstart this forum with what they actually paid for their Prius it would be much appreciated. I'm desparate for actual sample information that I can base my negotiating on. Thank you!

I bought 2011 pruis 2 with floor mats and bumper dodad for 23,500. This includes shipping and dealer doc's. Added after market nav and camera for $1500.00. Ditched the mats and put in husky all weather mats for $78.00. Bought rear cargo rubber mat from Toyota for $88.00.

Sounds like a good price considering the difference between a Package III and IV is ~$3250.
My Package III price $26691 + $3250 = $29941 (I don't have any adds but mats and cargo mat)
So you are just under that.

I live in AZ though. Prices are higher than CA. We pay $399 doc fee and 9.05 tax.

    My car $26691
    Tax 9.05 $2415.54
    = $29106.54
    + Doc fee 399
    = $29505.54

Not including title/reg/tire fee...can't compare the two

Your quote - package difference = $26400 if you were to buy my car
    Tax 8.25 $2178
    = $28578
    + Doc fee $55
    =$28633
    2.9% for 60 mo ~$2100
    = $30733

Difference ~$1200. So I think your price is a good deal. Obviously, it will cost more if you finance a more expensive car.

My suggestion is to price the car at local dealers using Truecar, then go to Toyota.com and look at the special offers on a Prius in your area.

I have found 1.9% for 60 months or $1000 cash back in some parts...I'm not sure if these were offered to you.
