Greetings all. My first post. Just bought a 2011 prius in sandy beach. Really like the color. I am coming from a 1987 volvo 240 wagon, hence the comment about coming into the 21st century. Less than 100 miles thus far but I like everything about the car. Part of the reson I bought was reading comments on this forum as a lurker. Look forward to many high mpg miles and learning more about how to drive this very interesting car

    Welcome To PriusChat .

I remember the excitement waiting for my 2007 Prius to come in. Every since than I remain excited with all the features of this wonderful car. But Best Of All The Gas Savings, I have been getting 56 MPG for the last 4 years.

I hope you enjoy your new baby as much as I do mine.

Welcome aboard and enjoy your new ride. Be sure to read over that owner's manual.

First, drive the car normally, go thru a couple tanks. Then start adding some hypermiling techniques and see if there's a difference (plus you don't need more distractions while you're trying to remember how wiper controls work). Don't make the common mistake of trying to accelerate in electric mode only - accelerate normally, but decelerate slowly. And don't expect 56 mpg, 50 is more typical, 40's not uncommon. Depends on your commute length, temperatures, use of heat & A/C, etc.

Irony of Sandy Beach - although it's my better half's 1st choice of all the Prius colors - it's the least popular of the ordered colors. Maybe that says something about here choice with me.

    ;)
