So I have been looking for a place or thread that had a list of the helpful hints about driving a Prius as I am new to the Pri family. I havn't really been able to find one yet where it was all packed into one nice little convinient post. So I figure why not start / try to start one. I figured it would be nice for the New v drivers as likely its a combination of people new to the Prius family and people who previously had a prius.

Couple things I have learned so far
    - Normal mode is engaged by pushing the mode button that you are currently in again (that is if you are in a mode, if no mode is showing on the instrument panel you are in normal already). ie: if I am in ECO I simply have to push ECO again
    - Since its winter now aparently from what I have read so far the best mode to be in is ECO as this has a lower tollerance for coolant temperature for shutting down the ICE than other modes

I try to read as much as I can but in the forum format sometimes important information can easily be lost out there (I have to admit while I am not scared of the search button I am not the biggest fan of using it :p). So if you have any helpful tidbits of information that would be helpful to first time prius drivers post it up and I can add it to this post so it acts as a nice quick reference.

We can put one in the Knowledge Base so it's open to all Prius owners and not just the v (esp. since there are powertrain similarities) if you wish. I hope to get more traffic into the Knowledge Base and treat that forum as a treasure trove =).

Sure that would be great I think!

    - another goofy thing I noticed today. If you start the car and then leave it with the keys 1) it will keep running but will beep at you when you leave it 2) you can not lock the car while its running in park with the key outside of the vehicle 3) your Bluetooth has a fairly heafty range on it. I received a call while doing this and the phone in my pocket did not ring or vibrate, I assume it made the apropriate noise in the car. When I went to check the voicemail I thought something was wrong with my car as nothing was comming out of the phone turns out it was playing over the audio system in the car while I was inside the house.

I've moved it and left a permanent redirect so that people can still find it if they stumble upon it in the v forum.

Yes, it will run until it's shut off. You can lock the car manually using the metal key.

How and where would one use the metal key on the exterior?

The metal key is stored in your key fob. There's a lock on the driver's door to insert the metal key in case of an emergency (e.g. the battery in the fob is dead).
