What's your order number?

Now does this really mean that number #1 will get their vehicle before #2? Seems logical but is it this simple?

 

No, it isn't that simple at all. The confirmation number is given at the time you placed the order but the delivery schedule depends on the order that you confirmed. Let's say number #1 placed their order about 10 minutes to 9 while number #122 (me) placed my order at exactly 9am. I confirmed at about 9:15am but if #1's dealer was delayed getting the quote out and #1 didn't confirm until 9:20 then #122 would, in theory, get their car before #1.

There are some other issues at play here though. First the cars will be built in batches based mostly on color so it is still possible that #1's car will be built before #122. Also, the cars are shipped to the West Coast and it takes another week or so to get the car to dealers in the East so since I am on the West Coast I might get my car earlier than someone from the East Coast who confirmed before me.

Noel, your explanation is spot on. The only minor comment is that Color is not the only manufacturing variable that might constrain the sequence. It would be more accurate to say that the manufacturing process will have a strong influence on the sequence of delivery.

I also think that since they plan on delivering some 15,000 cars in 2012 (say 1500 cars a month), if your confirmation # is under 1000, you are pretty much getting your car in the first month of delivery.

I would also bet that some VIPs get to jump the line for publicity purposes.

I wonder what is the earliest order confirmation number there is out there? We see in the spreadsheet that LurkAzusa has number 39...

 

Paradox has 38. That's the earliest I've seen so far.

 

The lowest number in my queue is 39. I even called to congratulate 39 on the brilliance of trying to get in early which paid off.

The highest number in my queue is over 3,400. I can't recall the exact number and I'm away this weekend but I had kinda planned to post a little spreadsheet of order # and model and color ordered so the analysts could analyze. I'm not sure if that violates any privacies for folks so I'm going to ask everyone on my order list if they mind.

In general if you don't put out anything that identifies the person (name, street address, phone #, email etc) - it won't violate any privacy laws (mind you IMNAL).

I was truthfully waiting (procrastinating) because in about 10-15 days, everyone's getting a Christmas/Holiday gift direct from me and I planned to build the list then with mailing info to print labels. Databases are NOT my strength LOL!

Dianne, I'd like to see the confirmation time/date, if possible. That would help everyone estimate where they are in the queue for delivery.

I'm thinking about changing my color, which would mean cancelling and reordering. My confirmation took 12 hours, so I might not lose much by moving further down.

If you posted confirmation time/date, that would help me judge how much further down I would move.

No such thing in any database Toyota provides me.
And, you can't count on individual emails that anyone got. All of mine looked identical for every single person - no one's name was on anything. On the 17th, any order-related emails to me from Toyota were useless. And, there were people getting emails 30 minutes after I had already confirmed their orders saying it had just been done, so that's worthless data. I have one fellow who's NEVER received an email from Toyota regarding a final confirmation, although I can see it on my end as being perfectly fine.

Best I can gather for you in the way of data is:
date ordered, conf code last 3-4 #'s and of course, what car model/color was ordered. I do not think that violates anyone's privacy. And, not all of my orders are Priuschat related. I have a lot of previous clients who ordered with no regard for Prius Chat connection or their llater affiliation with Chat. A few entertainment industry related orders as well. It will just be data to dissect later, I s'pose. I'll also leave off the # of anyone who doesn;t want to be a part of the dissection!

Yes, and I have. But it won't be as accurate as a full list from one dealer. Chat people would probably order real early, and the later ones might be less likely to post.

 

They don't ship the cars here one at a time. . They come in large container ships. They're unloaded in bulk, and after they clear customs, port-added accessories are applied and who knows what else. Then they go on trucks to dealers. Even if cars 1 & 2 were magically on the same truck, if the trucking route causes the driver to deliver Car # 2 first, thats that. I don't know how Toyota is managing these orders, but if their order sequence actually begins at the factory, it's logistically impossible for that to propagate all the way to dealer delivery. The first batch will be on the first container ship. After that, I don't think they have too much control over sequence, except maybe for some VIP's and celebrities, who's cars will be pulled specially.
