    Considering Purchase, MPG/Pricing Questions

    Greetings all,

I have been shopping around for a Prius recently and have a few questions for the seasonal members here.

I been debating between the P3 or P5.
There is obviously a large price difference between the two.

I am curious if there are any P5 owners out there that could share their real world MPG. I just can't help but think that with all the additional electronics in the P5 it has to effect the MPG of the vehicle.

For those who are number people, I'd like to know thoughts on if you felt these were fair prices. My location is Southern NJ.

    P5 with Nav/ATP/Blizzard - $32,286
    P3 with Solar - $27,032
    P3 with Nav - $25,475

    Thanks all, appreciate your time.

Welcome aboard! Most with a 5 have noticed slightly less FE, but only because of the larger / heavier wheels (17") I believe.

Thanks for the response. I was curious on what the differences are. Is it 1-3 MPG or is it 5+? Guess I am trying to find out how drastic it is.

I will let those with the 5 chime in but it appeared to be around 3-4 hit.

I have a 2010 V - ATP. My summer mileage is about 52; winter (4 snows) drops to 49. So i would have to agree that 3-4 mpg disadvantage. I love the DRCC though.

You bring up a question. With all the parking assistance and driving assistance the P5 brings, do you ever feel like you are not in control in a bad way? Do all these gadgets really work the way they are advertised?

"You bring up a question. With all the parking assistance and driving assistance the P5 brings, do you ever feel like you are not in control in a bad way?" No. The "driving" systems will disengage if you take your hands off the wheel & the "parking" system will disengage if you touch the wheel or press on the gas.

"Do all these gadgets really work the way they are advertised?" No. IMO the parking assist is more gimmick than useful. The RCC & LKA make long trips easier.

I haven't swapped out the 17" rims for 15" so I don't know what the hit is.

The AAA price for a 2011 Five-AT BP is $31874 less $500 incentive for a net of $31374. Invoice is $32674. The dealer is 36.3 miles from 08077.

Pretty sure the Five has somewhat firmer ride and more responsive steering. My MPG gage is pretty much pegged about 55, but if it was a Five, it should be closer to about 51.

Five wasn't for me in many ways - too expensive for me, I kinda don't like the 17's and very low profile tires which are more costly than 15" tires. Mostly just wanted to keep costs down.

The Five will have a quicker steering ratio and slightly firmer ride (due to the stiffer sidewalls of the 17" alloys). The Two-Four steering ratio is a bit slow for me. I do like the DRCC on my Tech Pack (AT Package for you guys) and PCS is a nice safety feature. IPA/APGS is a fun "show & tell" toy imo. I use it to park at work since I go early and there's not much traffic in the parking lot.

Also do you want halogens or LED headlights?
