    Hey gang,

I'd love to see pics of users who have aftermarket stereos in a gen III (2010).

I personally don't need a DVD or GPS for my car. I simply want BT calling and Iphone/Ipod capabilities. I'm just concerned about the head unit will change the aesthetic of the dash.

Any pics, tips would be appreciated.

All aftermarkets are 2din, and are documented here. Please try a search.

Any aftermarket will include GPS - it costs pretty much the same......... Why would you spend $500+ and not get GPS????

Just take the time to search here - there are several threads here with photos, many, like the FlyAudio, Chinese head unit and OttoNavi threads still right here in your face on the first page!

No point in starting another thread, IMHO, when many of us have already taken the time and trouble to post many, many photos in existing head unit threads...........................

Be aware that the factory look gen3 head units come in left hand drive and right hand drive versions so make sure you get the correct one. Always worth asking the chinese HU sellers on Ebay which one they are selling.

I agree most 2DIN units include GPS. The cost to add DVD, a display and GPS (including legal maps) adds to the cost of the unit. I suspect most people looking to upgrade their factory system want to add navigation.

Pioneer and JVC are selling app radios. Functions like navigation are handled with an I-Phone. Probably what the OP is looking for. The Pioneer unit has a list price of $400. Should be available $325-$350

OP should check Crutchfield and see what's available.

    edited to add
AFAIK the "factory look" units are only available with GPS and DVD. Market for those units is small, the market for a factory look unit without GPS is probably infinitesimal. You can get a dash kit. Won't look bad. Won't look like a factory unit either.

Never heard of app radio before but love the idea. What if I'm in death valley and can't get cell reception. Would I still have a backup navigation for just roads.

I replaced the radio in my Prius II with a Kenwood unit. I'm very happy. The unit does it all -- AM/FM/CD/DVD/iPod/XM. You can attach a USB stick with 1,000's of songs organized in folders however you want, and it'll play those. That's the music part.

It has Garmin GPS, which works very well, and Bluetooth connectivity for your cell phone. It very easily switches between music playback and GPS. When you shift into Reverse, it automatically displays a backup camera.

It sounds complicated, but it's very easy to use, and makes the car safer and more enjoyable.

I've attached the pictures. I took them with my phone camera, so they aren't great, but you can get a good idea.

Picture 1 is the general look of the installation.
Picture 2 is the Bluetooth microphone, which lets you make handsfree calls with your cell phone.
Picture 3 is the Garmin GPS, which, like everything else, is touchscreen-based.
Picture 4 is the general Source select screen, which lets you choose between sources such as USB music, a CD, or FM radio.
Picture 5 is the radio. Note that it shows you radio text, if it's being broadcast.
Picture 6 shows you what a call looks like. If an incoming call comes, you see this screen, and you press the green button to answer the phone and red to hang up.
Picture 7 and 8 show navigation and playback of music from a USB stick. Note the album art.
Picture 9 shows a DVD movie.

Some of the navigation apps for the IPHONE D/L maps to the phone. I think it would work without cell phone service.

Can the maps be upgraded on this Kenwood/Garmin unit?

Can you add custom POIs (points of interest) into the device?

    Thanks.

With the Kenwood eXcenlon Series yes, and it is free. No disc to buy from Toyota for appx $200 each update.

    Stock vs Kenwood DNX9960

The look is subjective and a matter of opinion. The performance is not.

Looks like it fits like a glove.
    Nice big screen.
Does Kenwood supply the bezel (the plastic part around the screen)?
and is it the same color gray?
    I like it!

The bezel is Toyota p/n 55406-47080 and is an exact match to the dash/console. This is for the European model Nav, so a filler is required because it is bigger than the US double din head units. I used the filler plate supplied with my Kenwood, which is same color and was trimmed to fit. Rebound "appears" to have used the same bezel, but may have used the Metra p/n 95-8202 filler pieces. He would have to verify this.
