As some of you may know, Scotland is experiencing one hell of a wind storm.

Well someone forgot to shut off the turbines...

    That'll buff out.

I wonder what the output was right before it burst into flames?

Shame it wasn't video - I'd love to see how fast the blades were whizzing around before it went bang.

That's an awesome picture. It's interesting that the failed unit is facing the opposite way of the other two. I'm guessing those two went into some sort of protection mode and this one didn't.

Looks to me like the top was spinning round on the shaft - see the smoke trail and the parts/flames falling off. Spinning anti clockwise. Like others have said though, I'd love to know what the output was with it spinning in 150 mph winds :)

Understanding the events... without having more facts than these photos... I'd say the failed unit was facing into the wind... and the wind blew the fireball back towards the generators...

    But that's just me...

Everytime I see something like this I am reminded of how happy I am.
How many people lost their business due to this wind generator accident? How many houses destroyed? City water sources poisoned? Asthma and respritory ailments worsened or caused?
I hope to see many more incidents such as this one. And share the desire to hear what the generation actually was just before the accident:)
I love seeing the results of when wind turbines or solar panel fail in comparison to the failure of:

    Oil in general:

    Deepwater oil drilling:

Or even other how other fuel sources look when they go right:

    (coal in this case).

Agreed. No doubt this may eventually be a "wind turbines aren't safe!" generating image. But I have also stabbed myself pretty badly with those brightly coloured Crayola "safety" scissors for kids by accident. You can make anything dangerous. :) A wind turbine blowing smoke and dropping a few hundred pounds into a deserted filed may upset a couple cows and a few hundred square feet of grass, but that's about it.

Just think of all the poor birds that will be spared since one of those bird killing props is out of commission.:rolleyes:

those look like low speed turbines. They are bird safe turbines.

Cool pick. I wonder if some government agency will be trying to reproduce it by smashing turbines.
