I found a pack of 10/12 random plugs at Kragen, I plan on using the other types for the camera install. I might have bent the Flyaudio plugs to fit the "male" plug I used.

I just completed the flyaudio basic installation on my new 2011 II. First, I want to thank eveyone who posted pics, vids etc -- they were extremely helpful. I am extremely happy so far with most things about the unit, especially at the 499 price point. I have couple questions for those who have installed the unit.

First, there was one OEM harness that was not used..any ideas on what it's purpose was ?

USB - I found the option in the DVD menu... but I cannot get the HU to recognize any files

Aux. If you turn off the IPOD controller in the menu, it is replaced by Aux... however this refers to the (in my case) unsed rca inputs on the HU, not the OEM aux jack in the arm console...
So without A2DP streaming support ,and non-working audio jack-- streaming pandora from my phone is no longer an option ... any ideas ?

Bluetooth .. I mounted the mic on the steering column as one poster had suggested but I am getting terrible audio quality.. Where has everyone mounted their mic's ?

    Hi Petrel,

The OEM harness left is the overhead built-in mic (can not be used with the Flyaudio or any other unit it seems).
As for USB, it's very picky about the file types recognized and the USB format too. Try mp3s and standard FAT formatting first (FAT32 doesn't work I think).
AUX in the console won't work BUT the Flyaudio extra AUX output is really nice because it has video too. So you can actually play videos or anything from your phone if you have this option on your phone.
Mic on the steering column works really well for me.

If one doesn't have any use for the video in the Aux input, is is possible to use an RCA-to-3.5mm adapter and route the Aux input down into the location where the stock Aux input is located? Seems like that would be relatively trivial with an adapter from Radio Shack or Monoprice.

Ok, so we just finished the install. Everything works great but the CD keeps ejecting out!? :( what went wrong? Has this happened to anyone? If we need to take the whole thing out and start again, I will bang my head on the wall after downing a whole bottle of vodka :(

k9, I put the gps in the same spot you mentioned, but did the mic sort of behind the wheel to the right. I hadn't seen your reply when we were mounting.

Did you take two screws out of the top of the unit? Frequently head units will ship with screws in the top to lock down the CD drive internals and they have to be removed so that the CD player can be used. That could be your issue. Of course, it's possible it's just faulty as well, or, if it's a burned CD, it may not be formatted properly so the unit ejects it since it doesn't recognize it.

It isn't a burned CD or DVD. I have to take the whole thing back out to check for screws!?! :( Thx for the feedback. I actually hope that's what it is.

and re the UPS "brokerage fee" I paid an additional 33.75 for mine in CA. According to UPS, the canadian seller company uses the cheapest possible shipping method that does NOT cover broker fees. UPS charges this fee because this fee isn't covered, though the unit does not have customs fees. They charge 33.75 even though the product has no gov't fees. If anyone wants to do their own paperwork with customs, they can save these fees. You just have to seller know to let UPS know at time of purchase. I did NOT know this. :) I bet there is also the option to pay the seller additional fees for the higher up UPS delivery option that will coverage broker fees :)

candy if you dont remember removing the 2 screws on top of the unit then i bet you forgot them, that sure would explain why the cd/dvd wont work,i can tell ya first hand it plays cds fantastic, nothing like the stock headunit
i did purchase a set of plastic tools for removing the dash panels, and they were worth every penny i paid for them,$7.49 on ebay heres the item #390326996836
the thing with the brokerage fees is what i been hearing is that everyone seems to pay a different price ,i paid 48.04,ive read people paying 55 bucks ,why the difference, and why arent these fees stated, the audio site does tell you to expect brokerage but for people who never dealt with these fees, who would expect such a high fee for doing what your paying for to begin with, but thats all done with, all i care about is how well the fly audio works and it does work well sounds fantastic, easy to sort thru, cant beat it for 499.00,plus fees, and so far any support needed from the audio shop has been great

you were totally right. It was the screws! and guess what was next to the screws? A big ol' sticker telling me to remove the screws!!!

That is what upset me as well. That I wasn't told about these fees (though I knew to expect them since people here have posted about them) I don't understand why there were different levels of fees, since the item does NOT have custums fees. I'm sure UPS is mass filling out a generic form and charging a nice chunk of change on top of everything else....but like you said, this is a great price for a great product, so I paid the 33.75 at the door and moved on.

    1) Can someone confirm that this FlyAudio unit does not have Bluetooth A2DP Streaming?

    2) How about street names? Does it have text to speech like Tomtom or Garmin?

    Thanks,
    Ethan

Can anyone with this unit take a look at the following Youtube video and comment on whether the Prius version seems like it's as responsive as the one in the video?

Just wondering if that's what to expect, or if maybe this unit is faster than the Prius unit.

that looks like the faster more powerful "golden" edition, maybe in the future they will make one for the prius but not now

Golden Copper Plated, Dashing Inside Out
The whole case is copper plated professionally to prevent oxidation. It significantly increases the shielding effect, radio reception, and it can also protect itself from electromagnetic pulse (EMP
