Does the PIP have a pre-heater ?

    Has anyone tried splicing a switch into the shifter wires. Flip the hidden switch to disable drive.

    There is not wire splicing for this application, it's through Prius CAN communication and software.

    So, if the PiP does not have a slot for the key fob, can you start the car when the key fob's battery is dead?

    :focus: does anyone make a 12v hairdryer? i could use that to defog the windshield.

    it looks great! (even mentions defrosting windshield) not sure about the direct hookup powerstrip tho, probably need someone with more technical expertise than me.

    There plenty of little 12volt heaters out there that will do the job.

    Why not just press the visible switch, AKA power button, when you get out.

    trouble is, maximum power rating of 12v power sockets is 150W.
    I have a 200W ceramic heater I bought some years ago for another car but I can't use it in the prius due to the above.

    40 amps seems like an awful lot of draw.

    Im digging up an old thread. The last post was from December 2011. I dont know when the pip first started arriving into customers driveways but I was wondering if this was still considered an issue.

    How is the heating system in the pip? Has anyone driven it in the cold yet? Im picking up mine this week so I have plenty of time to find a solution before another NY winter is upon me. (if a solution is needed)

    heating will be fine, just like your 08. discussion is about preheating while plugged in to warm the cabin so you won't need heat which will cause the ice to start while you're trying to drive pure ev. on a better note, it does have heated seats. how much battery they use will be determined a few months from now.

    Keep in mind the first deliveries were in the first week of March and in California, so all the "real" cold weather testing won't happen until this coming winter.

    Next time I speak to the Toyota guy out in Cal., I'll have to ask him what the parameters are that the PTC heater works in with the PiP.

    If it's the same as the non-PiP, it uses the PTC when the engine coolant is below 65°C, the ambient temperature is below 10°C, the car is in Ready, the blower is on, and the air damper is at "Max Hot". (This is different than turning the temperature all the way up to Max Hot; while the latter will force the air damper to Max Hot as well, the former will be Max Hot any time the cabin temperature is far below the set temperature.)

    At least, that's what the repair manual says.
