In fact the sensor is snapped into the coupler through two clips and the coupler is in turn glued on the windscreen through a 3M adhesive film.

While the sensor can be easily un-snapped from the coupler, the latter cannot be safely removed from the windshield.

The dimming functionality of the dash seems unrelated to the headlights also on the Prius 2010 base model (without auto headlights, when turning lights on during the day time, the dash does not dim).

I have a 2011 model 2 and it does not have the auto headlights. The Avalon that we had before did have auto headlights and I loved that feature. I would also be happy with the Canadian "always on" setup and had tried just leaving my lights on all the time. Mine however seems to have the off timer set at 60 seconds which is too long and I didn't like having to constantly adjust the dimmer. To answer your question, no the dash doesn't automatically adjust on the stripped down model Prius. Has anyone looked into adding the auto headlight feature, or the daylight driving lights to a USA model 2?

Perhaps coating the windshield with RainX will solve the "delayed wiper" issue. I've RainX for years & in light rain I don't need the wipers.

Thanks cproaudio & ir cama for this great add-on mod on Prius III.
Can this RT-50A be used on the 2004 Prius II as well?
How was the sensor wire be feed thru the ceiling & thru the driver-side frame down to the steering column?

Lately I'm having false triggers. I'm not sure what's causing it. I've cleaned the windshield. That seemed to help for a day or 2. I probably need to pull the sensor off the windshield and clean the backside of the windshield. Has anyone having false triggers? It's been working fine til about a month ago then all of the sudden, the wiper came on on a sunny day.

This happened to me the other day just after installing last weekend twice while driving in clear weather the wipers activated. Then while my windshield was full of small droplets during a very light rain it failed to activate one time... I also have the way too sensitive headlight activation and will deactivate or change this some how. Just driving into a shaded area on a bright sunny day the headlights pop on.

I'm having the same issue. Out of nowhere I'll get a single wipe. If there is mist on the windshield, I may get a single wipe or it may "go crazy" and switch to high speed wiping for 10-15 seconds before it stops... I've tried adjusting the pot on the sensor per the troubleshooting directions. May have to contact the factory...

Back in August, I pulled the sensor down and wipe the sensor and the mount. Since then there has only been 2 false triggers. There has not been a false trigger in a month. Now that rainy season is coming up, I can't wait for the auto wiper to turn itself on at the first sign of rain.

I popped the sensor off and wipe it clean. That seemed to reduce the false triggers but it still false triggers. I think as others have said that the plastic used in the Prius gave off some fume that causes a layer of white film on the glass. That layer of white film got on the glass where the sensor base would mount. There's no way to pop that sensor base off to clean the glass. If it's not raining, I just turn off the auto rain sensor. If there's a chance of rain, I turn the sensor on.

I put in a three position switch on the steering column that controls both the auto wipers and the headlights. I like this setup. The switch is DPDT, from radio shack. Up turns on both auto headlights and wipers, middle is all off or manual mode, and down is auto headlights only. I am using this instead of the single rocker switch that came with the kit. This is my second Prius install, and really like the features this adds, but I still have the sensitivity issue. Headlights come on too fast and the wipers sometimes activate on a sunny day.

Does anyone know if this would work on a 2012 generation III? I have a hard time finding wiring diagrams to compare.

I think it's the same. The only way to tell is to disassemble the steering wheel column cover and see. It's not that hard to remove. The wire color should be the same.

I would love to get auto/on/off lights. Local dealer won't touch it. Canadian dealer, would look at it but thought it needed a $800 computer unit plus the stalk since I have a III not the IV model on which the Auto/On/Off is standard. I do have the light sensor that turns the display up or down. You'd think it would be minor mod to install auto/on/off piggybacking on that same signal.

Your installation looks to be $200.

Gotta get somebody local to do it
