I'd have to have a Honda Fit Sport.

Used to have a 350Z as my 2nd car.

If I were to keep a sports car as a 2nd car, maybe I'd get a Miata MX-5. Hope the next gen has a bit better acceleration. Unfortunately, the 370Z has HORRIBLE reliability, so that's out, for now.

Absent Prius, I'd have keep my trusty Accord Hatchback another year or two, then gritted my teeth while deciding between a Hybrid Civic (unfortunately not a hatchback), Insight-II (unfortunately an inferior hybrid system compared to Civic), or VW TDI wagon (unfortunately a VW and a diesel).

Very glad I didn't have to face that choice. Now the family Subaru needs to hold on until the latest Impreza CVT system gets scaled up to something larger.

When not driving my Volt, its a Subaru for me.. because that's my wife's car. Need something that can haul landscaping materials (literally moved tons of rock in it), timbe skis, and with awd for the Colorado Snow.

Now when a EREV AWD or a 300+mile range BEV AWD CUV arrives we'll jump in an instant.

I had a 1988 Honda CRX HF and would be tempted to restore and mod another.

If it came with a stick, an Acura TSX wagon. If I had a bunch of cash to blow on a car a Caddy CTS-V wagon (with a stick). If I were leasing probably a VW GTI. If I did not have to worry about speeding tickets and lived in a place where I could appreciate it, a Subaru WRX.

If I were actually looking for a car right now though the benchmark would likely be a Honda Fit.

Before the Prius I owned a Honda Civic for 15 years. If there were no hybrids or EVs I'd have traded in the Civic for a newer Civic.

With no hybrid or EV, then my preference would be a Subaru. Problem is that, for some reason that she cannot explain, my wife hates Subarus, and as we share the car, would have to choose something else. She wants an Audi, BMW or a Merc, and I do not want massive maintenace costs, so they are all out. The one car that we both would consider is a Mazda 3, but our experience with the local dealer on two occassions has ruined any chance that we would even consider a Mazda again.

Now I think on it, very glad that the Prius is around - we both like it.
