Today a received a coupon to install a new Toyota Tru-2 battery in my 2005 Gen II. Since I still have the original battery installed, I am thinking that this maybe a good time to replace it.

Has anyone else installed one of these in their GenII and care to comment on its performance?

    Link to battery info.

    Thanks.

Is it actually recommended for a Prius? I suspect it's not an AGM battery.

Notice it says "PRIUS 2001- HV Please See a Toyota Parts Professional for Assistance"?

The coupon has my name on it plus it has the VIN printed on it. It says "Valid for VIN:......."
It certainly implies that a True-2 battery is available for my Prius. I'll call and find out.

The salesman at Sears said their DieHard brand is even better than JCI's Optima. It is only $100 and have some kind of mat surface similar to the Optima.

i wouldn't trust a salesmans knowledge, but it would be worth investigating the model# for size, post type and specifications.

For the humans riding your car to be safe (as Toyota put the 12 volt battery in the passenger compartment with you and your loved ones) you need two 'features' AGM and external venting. After that, there are fitment issues (the posts are non standard and it is physically small) but please do not compromise on the two safety items.

Plugging in a 2005 Toyota prius to Sears battery selection, sears has no batteries for the prius.

When I was last(fri) on the Toyota site it was trying to sell me the true2 battery for 69.95$, I was on a prius page, as I'm in NH it may have been a local deal but I'd try for the 69$ over the 99$, that's if I wanted a battery that wouldn't last a year, if I wanted to get a few years out of a battery I'd get an optima.

So I called the dealer and this coupon does not apply to a Prius. The True-2 they are offering is for normal start cars. For my Prius, the battery is $185 + $10 installation. So much for VIN specific coupons.

I still have the original 12V in the RAV, now 8 years old, a conventional flooded Toyota OEM.

Did you buy it? What is the part number? As far as I know, no one sells a suitable AGM/sealed lead acid battery for that price, regardless of terminal size or orientation.

So it's a *dealer's* coupon. In the United States "dealer" does not equal "manufacturer". For another good laugh (or maybe a good cry) compare Toyota's 60K miles Scheduled Maintenance Guide recommended service
    http://smg.toyotapartsandservice.com/guides.php
    with a dealer's 60K miles recommended service.

Of course he did; he wants to sell you a battery. Now ask him which DieHard is a direct drop-in replacement for the Prius. Let us know what he says.
