    Prius V Five in a beautiful sky blue metallic. My Bride is beyond thrilled!

    In addition to being (obviously) bigger than my Gen II Prius, it seems WAY more plush and comfy.

    I'm wondering though, has anyone else noticed that when brand spanking new, the AVG MPG indicator seems reluctant to come up as high as Prius standards? I'll grant you. it only had 35 Miles total when I got home last night, but as I was leaving the Dealer it read 17.1 MPG (Sheesh! I could have bought a Caddy!) and the 23 miles home only brought it up to 29.9.

    I didn't own Hal, my 2008, new, so don't know whether this is typical of all of them, or just the Prius v, or what. Thoughts?

    I do remember a low MPG reading when I took delivery of my Prius. You probably want to reset the MPG to zero. I am sure the MPG is thrown off when the factory sets up the car for delivery.

    PS Congrats on your new Vehicle.

    GuamKelly – Greetings. I lived in and flew out of Agana for a while.

    FYI: My previous Prius ride was a GEN II. Roger on your “…beyond thrilled! In addition to being (obviously) bigger than my Gen II Prius, it seems WAY more plush and comfy.”

    As far as “…seems reluctant to come up as high as Prius standards?” goes, No. I judge it as exceeding the standards of the 3G. It has a large, full-color Hi-Rez LED Screen displaying the ENERGY and CONSUMPTION, supplemented by a full-color display of EV, ECO and Power on the MID as well as having an upscale interior.

    When I took possession of and drove my new Magnetic Gray Metallic w/Gray SofTex & Max-Legal Window Tint 2012 Prius v―Five Stealth Multi-Role Petrol Warfighter home off the dealer’s lot, I started out with 7-miles on the odometer and 12.6 MPG on the total fuel economy readout. However, driving it *Hybrid $mart* using my Psuedo-Hypermiling/EcoDriving skills, I brought the average, running MPG readout numbers up to 48.6, and it is still climbing towards the 50s.

    At my current, presumed 50-ish MPG *Burn Rate*, the on-board computer projects 430-miles left in driving range for the remaining fuel.

    As I wrote in a previous post, I expect to achieve 120-125% of the v’s EPA 44/42/40 MPG numbers, which would end up delivering Per Tank-Full MPGs to me in the range of 51-54± MPG.

    Hang in there. Recognize that the Prius v is, in fact, a *Prius Land Yacht―Limo* (i.e. a "Caddy" in a Kimono) with a quieter and more solid ride, oodles of extra interior volume, extra personal Driver-Passenger surround-space, improved seating ergonomics and comfort benefits, and much more.

    I am a lifelong car aficionado, and I am loving this new 2012 Prius v. Toyota bolted on the best points of the 2G, deep-sixed the shortcomings of the 3G, and what remains is a fuel-sipping winner.

    Ooh, algebra!

    35 - 23 = 12

    1/29.9 = ( 12/17.1 + 23/x)/35
    35/29.9 = 12/17.1 + 23/x
    23/x = 35/29.9 - 12/17.1
    1/x = (35/29.9 - 12/17.1)/23
    x = 23/(35/29.9 - 12/17.1)
    x = 49.06 (2dp)

    Reset the trip gauge and you'll see on your next trip of reasonable length that the mileage is within parameters.

    A car at a dealer's is going to be idled and run on short trips.

    Al Gebra is an evil terrorist cult, ItsNotAboutTheMoney!

    I already reset the computer, hopefully will get it moving upward today when I have the car for the "long" drives from Talofofo to Big Navy to to Andersen Air Force Base and back home (catgic will recall this -- possibly as much as 70 miles total!).

    GuamKelly - Under my deft, HSD-savvy and Hybrid $mart foot, the Running MPG Average displayed on the MID of my stealth petrol warfighter was at 49.6 MPG w/ 86 total miles on it since it went down the ways at my Toyota dealer. When I made an arrested landing in my garage, I was on EV and it was still rocketing toward "$tellar" MPG-FE numbers.

    'Twas 12.6 yesterday --- now it is at 49.6 with a bullet --- das ist gut!

    I am running in the ECO Mode full-time, and doing a lot of iMPG = ½iMPH accelerations off the line (see Tip "A" of my 10 "Best Practices" For Achieving "$tellar" Fuel Economy In An OEM Instrumented Prius).

    ONWARD AND UPWARD!

    GuamKelly - By my clock, as I bang out this End-Of-2011 Prius v running MPG-FE update to you, you are passing through three (3) hours away from Happy New Year 2012, with me still 18-hours away.

    Anywho, FWIW FYI --- My deft Hybrid Zen Master feather-touch throttle foot has coaxed the running MPG-FE displayed on the MID of my "Vee" up to 52.2 MPG (and still climbing), as of when I rolled into my garage and shut it down a couple hours back.

    Happy New Year 2012 --- ahead of me --- and Happy Hybrid Hypermiling in your "Vee" in 2012.

    That's pretty good -- I rarely break 52 MPG for a tank in my 2008 Gen II ! Happy New Year!

    GuamKelly – Thanks. As a point of comparison, 2G-To-"Vee," I was regularly displaying/logging 54-57 MPG Per Tank-Fulls on my old 2007 GEN II/2G driving in this same “Idyllic For Hybrid Ops” Florida winter weather-temperatures (i.e. room temperature ambient temps & no HVAC use) during OCT-DEC.

    At this point, it looks like by driving Hybrid $mart in such ideal, “Hybrid Friendly” environments, I can attain and sustain low 50s MPG Per Tank-Fulls in my Prius v Petrol Warfighter for my particular daily “Rabbit Trail” driving commutes and errand running. I am running 52.6± right now.

    Once my “Hot Mama” issues an estrogen edict to “Turn on the air conditioning – I am Hot” or “Turn on the heater – I am COLD,” my low 50-ish fuel economy numbers will head south, and I expect I will have to work extra hard to keep upper 40s MPG displayed on the MID.

    Our fellow new 2012 “Vee Prii” owners living in the colder, wintery Northern Temperate Zone Latitudes, are having to deal with the incremental “Frost On The Pumpkin” MPG penalty of COLD STARTS and COLD ON-ROAD OPS. They probably will not have a chance to see the ~125% of EPA MPG numbers I am logging until sometime in the late Spring or Early Summer.

    This Enquiring Mind Wants To Know, has your wife plunged into my 10 Tips e-tome yet? If she has, has she gained any “bragging rights” benefit from it?

    I have her “penciled in on the flight schedule.” :plane:
