    Thanks a lot RobH!

Initially I skipped that command, as the post says that it might not be needed. Then I missed noticing that that command as it is in the instruction is not recognized. I got a ? after entering as it. However, entering it as you say, without the leading zero in the address("AT SH 7c0") does work perfectly in the Prius v.

I turned off backup beep to a single beep using Techstream and Mini VCI diagnostic. Just want to confirm that result during backup is now

    - Single beep inside the car
    - Continuous beep sound outside the car

2011 Prius model 2. Is this correct behavior?

By the way, Mini VCI + Techstream is about $47 shipped on ebay. Is basically Toyota's diagnostic equipment. Can read all codes, monitor all sensors and I think even record them live.

Is the Gen 3 Prius ODBII Connector 16 pin or 22. I think it's 16 pin but would like to confirm.

    Thanks.

Don't think there is, was or will be a beep outside the car at all.

Just checked it again, when I set to reverse, definitely 1 beep inside and repeated beeps outside. Here is the Techstream screen.

Well, they use the same sticker on the box as one I have. The instructions in post 195 of this thread should be a start. Clone ELM boxes are variable in quality - some work fine and others are nothing but trouble. For $12, I'd take the chance. Figure it will take 2-3 weeks shipping time, maybe more.

There's a lot about my Prius I didn't know! It would be advantageous if the car did beep outside the vehicle as sometimes it is very quiet in reverse and people walking do not hear you - although I'm not sure how they don't see a car backing up!

My car seems to be the only one with external beep after switching the internal beep to a single on reverse.

I did buy the car used at 1000 miles from a shuttle service company. Perhaps they installed a aftermarket backup beeper. Looks like there are aftermarket backup light bulbs that have built in beeper in them. I should take a look when I get a chance.

External beep is much quieter than the annoying internal beep and perhaps a nice safety feature given how quiet this car is.

Thank you JerryLoz. I am not at all good with cars, but I bought the Elmscan 5, installed the OBDwiz, and used your program and now I only have a single beep when putting the car in reverse (I don't mind the seat belt beep). My only hiccup was that when I connected the Elmscan 5 and ran the OBDwiz program and told it to autoconnect, it popped up with two options (I can't remember what they were off the top of my head). Mine is on COM3, so I changed it in your program to COM3. I tried the first one and your program didn't work. Then I tried the second one and it worked!

Using JerryLoz's program can you disable both front seatbelt beeps or just the passenger seat?

Successfully disabled the reverse and seatbelt beeps in my 2011 Prius III w/Nav. Here's what worked for me

    1. Bought the $13.91 "V1.4 ELM327 OBD2 OBDII CAN-BUS Diagnostic Scanner USB" from ebay seller tomtop_digital shipped from China. Got it in about two weeks. The guy has sold over 1,000 of them.

    2. Struggled with getting PUTTY to talk to the interface, had to use device manager (Win XP), and select a low numbered com port under "Ports (COM and LPT)". For some reason, COM10, which is what the what the system selected for me didn't work. I changed it by right clicking the COM port entry, then selecting Properties, Port Number, Advanced and selecting COM2 from the dropdown menu. Set the port to 38400, 8 bits, no stop bits. PUTTY then worked.

    3. The AT SH 07C0 command didn't work. The command resulted in a question mark. I entered it without the leading zero as suggested in an earlier post. Entering AT SH 7C0 worked just fine. The rest of the instructions worked nicely.

Thanks to the fine folks in this thread that helped me get rid of those infernal beeps! Backing out of my long driveway is now much less stressful, plus I have an interface that will read and reset trouble codes!

If you just want to disable the passenger seat, use the terminal method and change 3B A7 00 to 3B A7 80.

Anyone in the Philly area willing to meet to get rid of my beeps? I'll compensate with a few pints at a local brew pub and offer my undying appreciation.

To add to your comment, and to ron57108's instructions, the AT SH 07C0 command IS needed, which goes against ron75108's instructions that it is probably not needed. And like tgtech figured out, the leading 0 must be dropped for this command to be recognized.

If I don't enter the AT SH 07C0, the subsequent commands to remove the beeps return unrecognizable results.

For the record, I also bought the "V1.4 ELM327 OBD2 OBDII CAN-BUS Diagnostic Scanner USB" from eBay seller tomtop_digital.

One aspect that no one mentioned yet is installing drivers for the ELM327 USB reader. I found that this page provided the most up-to-date drivers for the device:
    Virtual COM Port Drivers

As far as changing the settings of the COM port (which defaulted to COM4), all I had to do was change the speed to 38400.

Jerry's program disabled both driver and passenger chimes on my 2011 Prius III. The chime sounds two or three times, then stops. The light continues to flash.
It also changed the reverse beep to one beep.
Worth the $30 I paid for the tool on Amazon--and thanks again to JerryLoz.

I complained to Toyota about my dealer not wanting to remove the continuous beep from both of my vehicles due to safety concerns. Needless to say the dealer reacted quickly to Toyota's call. Both cars were taken care of in less than 10 minutes, and of course there was no charge.

I guess filling out those surveys can payoff sometimes.
