Can HSD work without the current from the battery?

The MFD shows that the ICE can provide current to the MG2 via MG1 and to the battery at the same time.
Have you ever seen the MFD show the ICE feeding the MG2 via the MG1, *without* MG1 interacting with the battery? is this possible?

I had a comment regarding this on the Wiki, and I do remember to have seen this on my Prius, but cannot reproduce it...

I am going nuts on this... ;)

PS: on the owner's manual on page 190 there is MFD pic of the MG2 pushing the car without any arrow coming from the battery, while the ICE is also pushing the car - clearly against the laws of physics, I would say...or the arrow from ICE to the MG1/MG2 path is not there...

Maybe the user's manual has been corrected for the MY2012? does anybody have the new MY2012 (regular) Prius with the new MFD? The MY2012 regular Prius is not yet available in EU and the Websites of Toyota in EU have not been yet updated with the new model.

We had a good discussion about this in an older thread and IIRC, once in motion the answer is yes, in fact the HV battery is receiving a charge often while in motion.

The ICE can transfer power to the wheels mechanically and also electrically. The electrical path is via MG1 to MG2. The HV battery is not needed for this, other than starting the ICE. The HV battery can also supply supplemental power, or take power for recharging. Neither is a requirement.

Don't put too much stock in the MFD display or the owner's manual. The MFD display is a gross simplification, and the owner's manual is just gross (period). :D Seriously, a corporation the size of Toyota should hire some real tech writers.

Yes, you'll have to drive until HV battery is at its sweet-spot (6), and about 80-90km/h at low/medium HSI, and no peripherals consumption (vent, lights, etc.).
