    Excellent mod! The red dividers are definitely nice. If there were some way to mod the MFD, then it would all come together.

    I wish there was a solution. I'm thinking of firing a blue light into the MDF to see if that would change the color a bit.

    BTW, I just did the conversion on my wife's 2011 BP Prius 2 in PINK. I'll get some pics posted once it gets dark tonight. (gotta keep the wife happy to have time for mods.:p)

    I saw his blue LED version in person this week and I can say the pictures do not do it justice. Every part was updated with no signs of green LEDs left.

    It looks amazing and very OEM.

    My blue ghost is so sexy just finished up my dash conversion. I have more projects coming from Japan so I wont be working on my wheel/doors and the rest of the dash leds yet.

    I have been keeping a video on taking apart my whole dash but have yet to edit it and place it on PC. If you search the www I'm certain you will find videos of dash disassemblies. As far as the HVAC and NAV go, there are few screws or botls. The bolts are 10mm while the screws are #2 phillips. I will suggest that you're really careful with removing the NAV unit. I placed a towel down on the shifter knob and HVAC unit to protect them just incase I dropped the NAV unit. Once you reinstall the dash you will have a "check hybrid system" fault on the upper dash. No need to worry as it is simply reset by removing the negative end of the 12v battery in the rear of the car. If you are going to do the steering wheel panel as well then you might as well disconnect the negative end anyway. This is so that the airbag is inert because in order to remove those panels the bag has to go. There are two small panels located behind the wheel. One where the cruise control lever is located the other is opposite that. There are two metal clips that retain the airbag in place remove those. Once the bag is removed there are two screws that hold the two panels on. Oh before I forget, the NAV unit has a zillion plugs. No need to mark them as each plug only goes into one place. You will see what I mean when you remove the unit. If you have more conerns please feel free to post your questions as there are many people on this post that know whats up. I hope this helps and if you want the vid I'm sure I can PM you or email you the vid. Also I saw that there are a few wreched Prius near by. If your not comforatable with soldiering I would suggest you grab one HVAC unit to practice on. The NAV unit has smaller leds but you just practicing placing and soldier them in place. Plus I'm certain the HVAC unit is 100 bucks compared to the $4500 NAV unit. :D:D:rockon::rockon:

    Thanks, I am actually pulling the wheel off this weekend to install a Japanese one. I will take a look at it then.

    I've only ever added a LED once, but it was relatively painless. I followed this: Rear fog light icon in switch for VWs Does this procedure seem similar with regard to soldering on the board, with the added step of removing the existing LED first?

    Thanks you posting some great details! LIKE HE SAID^^^ practice on something before messing with the pricey NAV.

    BTW, the "check hybrid system" error will only come on if you "pwr" on during your HVAC/NAV removal/installation. Instead of spending the time to disconnect the batt, you can just cycle your car on and off 5 times to clear it. JUST FYI.:)

    Having performed this type of board level repair, it would really help to have access to a SMT Solder/Desoldering Station. Yes I know that's rare, so the next best thing is at least an adjustable temperature Solder Station. The last thing you want to do is melt away the copper circuit trace on the circuit board with, well say a 300 watt Weller Hand Gun.
    That would be bad.
    The diode will be soldered on both ends, the trick is to heat quickly enough that as you unsolder one side lift lightly with a pair of tweezers, and quickly hit the other end with the tip of the iron and lift as you heat, back to the other side and you can remove the diode and not destroy the trace. pre-tin the tiny leads of the new LED and gripping it with a tweezers, touch one side until it melts the solder and drops the diode to the trace. Quickly do the other side, and then rehit the first side. If the diode is soldered at the incorrect angle, it will not properly place the light where it's needed. Oh, another minor detail, you have to match the polarity of the LED diode you are replacing. There is a Positive side, and a Negative side.
    This is a great mod, to those who have already performed it, my hats off to you guys, they look great, although, while I also like the Blue with Red accent dividers, my wife did not care for the pink... That surprised me, as she is known for her love of Pink.
    This is an ambitious project. I am going for a Amber look in a Gen II. When I go for it, I will document the process!
    Looking forward to starting the Gen II thread on LED replacement!

    Ok, my question is where are you buying the LED's? I want to do blue with min to keep the blue theme going. Also, how many do I need to buy to do it all including the door controls? I have an aftermarket NAV so not so concerned about those numbers but I'm sure others would like to know. I want to do this as soon as possible. Have seen it done in the past by another guy, but until now I haven't had the time. Thanks for any help you can provide.

    I am buying all my leds from Kingbright USA, an opto-electronic LED manufacturer products include all type of LED LAMPS , SMT LED, SMD LED, LED DISPLAYS optoelectronic components the part #'s are APL3015QBC/G-F01....those are for the everything it seems. The PLCC's you will need;you'll have to ask lpe350 as I used that part number for all of my leds as I was unable to use the PLCC I got. I just ordered 90 of those bad boys cost me 29 bucks.
